Mrs. Norma Robinson Hackney, 90, lifelong resident of Lake City died Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at the Lake City Medical Center following an extended illness. Born July 15, 1917 in Lake City to the late Norman Lee and Cleavy Parks Sheppard Robinson, she was a descendent of one of Lake City’s pioneer families. She attended Lake City schools, graduating from Columbia High School in the Class of 1935 and attended Florida State College for Women where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority.

With her husband, the late Preston Payne Sherrill, they owned and operated Sherrill Funeral Home until his death in 1955. She later married Walter M. Hackney, Jr. who also preceded her in death. She was affiliated with the Columbia County School System for 23 years as a staff member in the library and administrative offices of the Lake City Junior High School. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lake City.

Survivors include three daughters: Becky Linton (Bill) of Bradenton, Jane Dudan (Ron) of West Palm Beach, and Linda Lee (Lamar) of Live Oak; seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hackney will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Monday, July 30, 2007 at Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. James Montgomery officiating. Visitation with the family will be held from 2:00 P.M. Monday until service time. Private burial services with the family will be held at Memorial Cemetery in Lake City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Columbia High School Museum, P.O. Box 706, Lake City, FL 32056-0706. Arrangements are under the direction of GATEWAY-FOREST LAWN FUNERAL HOME, 3596 S.
