Norma Hess Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McCoy Funeral Home - Roscoe on May 1, 2025.
Norma Jean Lacy Hess, age 97, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on September 19, 1927, in Turkey, Texas, Norma lived a long, grace-filled life marked by unwavering faith, kindness, and devotion to those she loved. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Forest; her three sisters, Elva, Flossy, and Coy Jane; her brother, Perry; and her daughter-in-law, Sherry. Norma was the proud and loving mother of four children: Jimmy Hess (wife Vickie) of Lubbock, Bruce Hess (wife Maureen) of Sweetwater, Cathy Mitchell (husband Byron) of Ropesville, and Lois Chambliss (husband Terry) of San Angelo. She also leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family and friends who were blessed by her steady presence and unconditional love.
She was a woman of quiet joy and peace. Norma's love of reading was lifelong, having read thousands of books in her 97 years. Some of her happiest moments were spent at the table with her grandchildren, playing games, laughing, and creating memories that will be cherished for generations. Norma's deep faith in God was the cornerstone of her life. A devoted Christian, she lived her beliefs daily with quiet strength, compassion, and humility. She served as a guiding light not only for her family but for all who knew her.
Those who knew Norma will remember her for her warmth, resilience, and the gentle way she made others feel seen and cared for. Her legacy is one of faith, family, and enduring love. Another thing she will be remembered for is her collection of turkeys. Started by her dear sister in remembrance of their hometown, she amassed an impressive number of turkeys, ranging from saltshakers and pillows to a large metal turkey in the front yard that became a photo opportunity for all the grandkids.
Norma's life will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, at the First Baptist Church in Roscoe with burial following at Hillside Memorial Gardens in Snyder. A time of visitation with the family will be provided an hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater.
The family is deeply grateful to the caregivers whose compassion and dedication allowed Norma to remain in the comfort of her home during the past year. Their care was a true blessing. The family also deeply appreciates the many prayers and expressions of support during this time. In honor of Norma's memory, they invite friends and loved ones to consider a donation to West Texas Hospice, the Lifehouse Community of Sweetwater, or a church or charity of their choice.
