Norma Abraham Hessenthaler also known as "Mom" and "Grandma Norma" passed away in the early morning hours of October 11, 2022, in the New Horizon Care Center in Lovell, Wyoming at the age of 93.
Norma and her twin sister Naomi were born on April 16, 1929, to parents George and Margaret Abraham. They were born in the home of their grandparents John and Catherine Abraham Northeast of Byron. Norma lived her entire life within three miles of her birthplace. She grew up on the family dairy farm where at a young age they were expected to help wherever they could. At that time, cows were milked entirely by hand. Farming required extensive manual labor. In addition to dairy chores, summertime required bean fields to be hand wed. The family spent a lot of time working side by side.
She attended elementary and secondary school in Byron graduating in the class of 1947. During her junior year she met Charles Hessenthaler, a handsome and decorated World War II Veteran. A year and a half later, they were married on January 17, 1947. To this union, five children were born.
During her lifetime Norma had three hobbies: her family, her church, and music. She and her twin sang duets at an early age, and both played piano and organ extensively accompanying many soloists and choirs. Norma was a very devoted mother and grandmother. The grandchildren love to share stories of spending time together at Grandma Norma's house.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband Charles, who died in 1998, her 2nd husband Dee Perkins who died in 2007, her parents, her older sister Ruth-who died at eight years old, her twin sister Naomi Briggs, her younger brothers George and John Abraham, and grandson Ryan Lohrenz. She is survived by her sister Margie Beth Schweitzer, her five children: Charles Jr. (Amy) Hessenthaler of Byron, Jack (Sydney) Hessenthaler of Byron, Ruth Kay (Jim) Lohrenz of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Paul (Erin) Hessenthaler of Cody, and Kent (Stacy) Hessenthaler of Thermopolis. She is also survived by 24 grandchildren, 57 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Charles and Norma have truly blessed the lives of many people. They taught their children and grandchildren by love, example, and hard work. They are now together again, planning and preparing for that heavenly family reunion.
