On Friday, June 21, 2024, Norma Santos Lim, ended her battle with dementia and passed away peacefully.
Norma was born on May 30, 1941 in Salinas, Bacoor, Cavite, Philippines to Benita Francisco and Teodorica Santos, Sr. She graduated high school from Imus Institute and earned a nursing degree at De Ocampo Memorial School of Nursing. She later worked at De La Rosa Clinic and Private Hospital in Manila as well as the Far Eastern University Hospital.
In 1964, she immigrated to the United States on an exchange work visa and worked as a registered nurse at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Elizabeth, NJ where she met Elizer S. Lim, a medical resident at the time. They fell in love and wedded in 1965. The couple was happily married for over 50 years.
Norma worked at French Hospital in Manhattan, New York and served as head nurse of its Intensive Care Unit. After her daughters were born, she worked as office manager and nurse in her husband's gastroenterology practice in Cranford, NJ. She was an active member of the Union County Medical Society Auxiliary, serving as its president for a term, as well as of the Philippine-American Medical Society of New Jersey (PAMS-NJ) She was an avid and skilled bowler.
Norma is survived by her two daughters, Eleanor Lim-Midyett (Kurt) and Stephanie Lim Capello (Charlie), grandchildren, Henry (Alana), Chase, Eli and Walt Midyett and Max and Ryan Capello, sisters, Narcissa De La Cruz Red and Soledad Santos Espiritu. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Elizer S. Lim, her brothers, Augusto De la Cruz, and Teodorico Santos Jr, and sister, Maria Luisa Santos Bellon. Plans for an online memorial service will be announced at a later date.
