Obituary published on Legacy.com by St. Joseph Funeral Homes - Mayflower Chapel - South Bend on Aug. 18, 2025.
Norma "Normie" Lundquist, 85, passed peacefully at Morningview Assisted Living Facility, "flying the coop" bright and early Saturday morning, August 16, 2025. Living and dying according to her own terms.
Born on May 13, 1940,
South Bend, Indiana, Normie spent her life rooted in the community she loved. She owned and operated the Lundquist General Store in Crumstown before working at K-Mart and later Martin Supermarkets, where she rose in the wee hours to make donuts in the bakery before moving to the deli. She finished her working career with Marge Drevs, CPA.
She is survived by her children, Laurie Evans, Greg Lundquist, DeAnna Kinyon, Debra (Timothy) Hudak; grandchildren, Rachael Bowering, Jessica Evans, Kalie Lundquist, Brice (Naomi) Kinyon, Anna Hudak, Sam Hudak; step-grandchildren, Amber (Tom) Burkhart and Timothy Hudak, Jr. She was affectionately known as "GG" to her five great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Normie was preceded in death by her parents, Benedict and Bernice (Bartkowiak) Wawrzynczak; her sister, Rosemary Chlebowski; her brother, Richard "DW" Wawrzynczak, her first love and ex-husband, Donald Lundquist; her second love, Bob Kemble; and her son-in-law, William "Billy" Kinyon.
Our sassy Normie was the life of the party and never met a stranger. She was a homemaker who left her children with many fond memories-like curling her hair with Dippity Do while the kids played outside. There was a balanced dinner on the table every night, leaving plenty of mysteries in the form of her unwritten recipes, which no one will ever quite be able to duplicate. Everyone that knew Normie understood that they could hear the term Bull Shitty or KMA if she ever disagreed. You absolutely knew where you stood with Normie. You could easily find her in a crowd by her laugh and it was her pleasure to make those around her laugh as well. Her beautiful blue eyes will forever be etched in our memories.
Her love of theater led her to volunteer as an usher at the Morris Civic Auditorium and South Bend Civic Theater. She and her second love, Bob, frequented the local American Legions, VFWs, and made many lasting friendships at MR Falcons. Cheers Normie!
The family would like to thank the staff and friends of Morningview Assisted Living Facility, and most especially her roommate, Lynn Baughman, who fondly called her "Stormie Normie "and recognized her as being full of piss and vinegar. Special thanks also to Paradigm Health for their compassionate hospice care in her final weeks.
A Mass will be held at 1:30 pm on Saturday, September 6th, 2025 at Holy Cross Church, with time to meet with the family one hour prior to the mass. A Celebration of life and lunch will follow. If you cannot attend the mass, please contact the family as they would still like you to join and share memories at the luncheon. Private interment with family will take place at Cedar Grove Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Paradigm Health, 3625 Park Place West, Suite 200, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
