Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kerr Brothers Funeral Home - Harrodsburg Road on Jan. 11, 2026.
Norma Jean Moore, 86, of Lexington, passed away peacefully Friday, January 9, 2026. Born January 19, 1939, in Lexington to the late Wesley and Anna Mae Flack Hicks, she lived as a child on a farm in Nicholasville but knew early on that farm life was not for her, leading her to further her education and build a successful career. She spent many years working in Frankfort for the Kentucky Crime Commission and then moved on to her career at the Fayette County detention center where she worked until her retirement. She was the administrative assistant for 3 jailors that came and went during her tenure there. It was often said that she was the glue that held them together.
She married Stanley "Bud" Moore on August 21st, 1962, and the two of them spent many years attending more UK basketball and football games than can be counted and lots of horse racing at Keeneland and the Breeder's Cup, wherever that took them as they rarely missed a race. She was preceded in death by her beloved Bud in 2008 but still managed to find much joy in her family and continued her love of UK sports, horse racing, and of course shopping. She was a lady of great style and never met a stranger along the way.
She is survived by her two sons, Michael Henderson (Renee) and Jeff (Paulann) Moore, 5 grandchildren Margaret (Lucas) Tanck, Kenneth (Nadia) Henderson, Brieanna (Mike) Pettry, Tucker (Ashley) Willis, and Blaine (Andrea) Willis. She also was Nanny to 9 great grandchildren Daphane, Hazel, and Eloise Tanck, Max, Noah, and Elijah Pettry, Currie and JT Willis, and Walker Willis. She is also survived by her cherished brother and sister-in-law Donald and Nancy Hicks.
Services will be held at 12:00 pm on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at the Kerr Brothers-Harrodsburg Road by Rev. Dennis Burrows. Visitation will be from 10:00 – 12:00 Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lexington Cemetery.
The family would like to thank all the wonderful caregivers at Cedarhurst of Nicholasville and Bluegrass Care Navigators. Donations are suggested to Southern Hills United Methodist Church in Lexington.
She is now home with her heavenly father and reunited with Bud and as she would say:
"See you later Alligator"
