Kelley Davis Browning Johnson
Kelley Davis Browning Johnson, born September 26, 1960, passed away peacefully in her home on January 21 at the age of 65, surrounded by comfort and rest, just as she lived her life-full of warmth, love, and light.
Born in
Denver, Colorado, Kelley was the daughter of Peggy and William "Bill" Browning. She later made her home in Kentucky, where she built a life centered on family, laughter, and compassion.
Kelley was a devoted wife to her husband, Brett Johnson, and a fiercely loving "mama bear" to her sons, Derrick and Dustin Stephens, and her stepdaughters, Brittany Johnson and Katrina Johnson. She was the very best Nana-patient, playful, and endlessly proud-to her grandchildren Micah Riddle, Rosalie Wilson, Weston Johnson, Hope and Faith Rodgers, Dylon Gentry, and Isaak Gentry. Her grandchildren would all agree: Nana's love was unmatched.
She is also survived by her sister, Leslie Browning-whom she loved deeply and shared an unbreakable bond with, her best friend-along with her niece, Keisha Browning; her nephews, Andrew and Chad Browning; as well as many cousins and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Kelley was preceded in death by her father, William Browning; her mother, Peggy Golden; and her brother, Ronnie Browning.
A graduate of Tates Creek High School in
Lexington, Kentucky, Kelley treasured her lifelong friendships. She loved attending class reunions and remained close with many of her high school friends, continuing to celebrate holidays and milestones together until her passing.
Kelley had a heart especially devoted to children with special needs, a passion that guided her career as a special education classroom assistant at Huntertown Elementary. Her patience, kindness, and gentle encouragement left a lasting impact on countless children and families.
She loved music, everything from oldies rock and classic tunes to new country. When life gave her the blues, Kelley would go on a "Kelley ride" through Kentucky's horse country, windows down and music blaring, letting the road and the rhythm restore her spirit. She also found peace outdoors. Whether water skiing on the lake, gardening in the yard, enjoying the beach, or adventuring in the woods (earning her the affectionate nickname "Camping Kelse"), nature was where she felt most alive.
Kelley was a light in the dark-someone who could lift your spirits even on your heaviest days. She had a gift for optimism and a contagious laugh, whether you were laughing with her or at her many endearing quirks. Her joy, humor, and unwavering love will be deeply missed.
In honoring her love for the beach, Kelley's ashes will be spread there at a later date. Her legacy lives on through the lives she touched, the laughter she shared, and the love she gave so freely.
Kelley's Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 12:30 pm. The celebration will take place at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home at 3421 Harrodsburg Rd.
Lexington, KY 40513. David Prigge will officiate.
