Norma Oppenheimer Obituary

Published by Porter Loring Mortuary McCullough on Aug. 10, 2017.
Norma Katz Oppenheimer (September 24, 1921-August 10, 2017), native of New Orleans, Louisiana, was married to the love of her life, Jesse A. Oppenheimer for 54 years. She was an avid reader, loved to travel, and had a green thumb like no other. Norma volunteered thousands of hours to The Tobin Library, Elf Louise, the Republican Party, and numerous other organizations. Norma was known to be a lover of dachshunds. Her final companion Kissy, sat by her side until the end of her 95 years. She had a presence when she walked into a room. Norma was elegant and regal and always had a perfect bow in her hair. Norma was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jesse A. Oppenheimer, and beloved son Alan G. Oppenheimer. She is survived by her daughters, Sally Oppenheimer and Nora Bollman, grandchildren Allison, Amy, Marcus, Reagan, and Braden, great grandchildren Alan, Mason, Mia, Seraphine, Noah, Mary, Chloe, Luke, Lydia, and Lucy. The family would like to give thanks to her devoted caregivers Mirella Gonzales, Rosie Garcia (the weather girl), and Jacqueline Angulo. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Texas Military Institute's Alan G. Oppenheimer Memorial Fund (www.tmisa.org) or Diamond Dachshund Rescue (www.ddrtx.org). Please accept our condolensces on the passing of your loved one. She was an active member of Bexar county Republic of Women for many years and served as a caller on the telephone committee for ten years. She was still able to keep informed after losing her sight. She told me she used to use a magnifying glass to read the newsletter. -C. F. Kraft

I had the pleasure of meeting Mrs.Oppenheimer while working at A&B Hearing. It was always nice to visit with her when she came in to our office. I think I could have listened to her story-telling all day. She had such an busy, interesting life. She will be missed by many!!

I will always remember Norma immaculately dressed with her lovely red hair as she worked for Republican candidates. She would always help anyone who supported her principles and beliefs . Her passing leaves a void.
Please know she DID make a difference. We need more volunteers like her!

I was so sorry to hear of Norma's passing. She was such a memorable part of my years at SMH. Some of my fondest memories are from shopping at her store, Jordan-Oppenheimer's. She will be missed.

Some of my most fond memories as a young girl are of the times spent on Camelback, in the Oppenheimer household. It was my second home. Your parents were always so gracious and welcoming. Your Mother always exemplified grace and elegance. I know she has joined Mr. Oppenheimer, Alan and, yes, Myrtle, for a reunion like no other. I pray for comfort and peace for your family. Please know that you are loved, as was she. A beautiful lady I was honored to know for over fifty years.
