Norma Jean Shellito, 90, formerly of Conneaut Lake and Hayfield Township, passed away on July 15, 2023 at Rolling Fields Nursing Home in Conneautville, PA.
She was born on July 20, 1932 in Meadville, PA to Norman E. and Naomi V. Sorg McGuire. Norma Jean was raised in Shermansville, PA. She married Harry James (Jim) Shellito on June 26, 1953.
Norma Jean and Jim celebrated 63 yrs of marriage in 2016. They lived Hayfield Township over 50 years and attended the Littles Corner's United Methodist Church where Norma was an active member. She served as a Sunday School and a Vacation Bible School teacher, pianist, and Sunday School Superintendent. Norma Jean was active in the United Methodist Women and enjoyed retreats at Wesley Woods church camp. Family gatherings were her greatest joy, especially holidays, birthdays, and family reunions. Norma had many relatives and took interest in the lives of her mother's (Sorg) and father's (McGuire) extended families.
In their retirement she and Jim moved to the east side of Conneaut Lake and were active members in the Conneaut Lake Historical Society. Norma Jean was a proud 1950 graduate of Conneaut Lake High School and was active in the Conneaut Lake Alumni Association. She also took pride in her Irish (McGuire) heritage. Norma Jean found joy in being a devoted mother and grandmother. She and Jim enjoyed many trips to visit their children and grandsons. Norma Jean enjoyed growing vegetables and flowers, fishing, baking, playing cards and board games (especially Scrabble), and warm summer mornings.
She is survived by three children: Teresa Olah and her husband Donald of Meadville, Joseph Shellito and his wife Sharon of Conneaut Lake, and Julie Weagraff and her husband Marc of North Royalton, Ohio, two grandsons: Abraham Shellito of Aberdeen, Maryland and Nathan Weagraff of Chicago, Illinois, and her sister: Marilyn Penfield of Linesville, many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harry J. Shellito, her parents, three brothers: Gerald McGuire, Larry McGuire, and William McGuire.
Calling hours will be at the WAID-COLEMAN FUNERAL HOME, INC., 12422 Conneaut Lake Road, Conneaut Lake on Wednesday, July 19, from 2 - 4 pm, 6 - 8 pm and from 10am - 11 am on Thursday July 20. The funeral service will be held on July 20 at 11 am at the funeral home with Rev. Lea Guiney officiating.
Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Harmonsburg, PA.
