Norma Lavaughn (Hemken) Shipman, age 90, of Hillsboro, passed away at 9:38 PM, July 22, 2025, at Hillsboro Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.

Norma was born the daughter of Charles and Mamie (Fenton) Hemken on March 5, 1935, in Hillsboro, Illinois.

Norma graduated from Hillsboro High School, class of 1954. She went on to work for several places throughout the area but eventually spent 23 years with the Echlin group in Litchfield.

Norma became Mrs. Shipman when she married her love Robert Shipman on May 22, 1955. He has since preceded her in death on January 29, 2008.

Together she and Robert owned and managed McGuffins, an ice cream/sandwich/arcade shop in Hillsboro for 10+ years.

She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Hillsboro for many years and also became a member of the Walshville Baptist Church. Norma was faithful to church as well as her arts. She loved creating beautiful works of art out of wood with her husband. This also led them to many art shows over the years.

Norma is survived by her children Rick Shipman, Roger (Wife, Rene) Shipman, and Rodney (Wife, Juli) Shipman; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and her sister Delores Neathery.

Ms. Shipman was preceded in death by her husband Robert, her parents Charles and Mamie, sisters Louise Russell and Charlene Butler.

Memorials in Norma's honor may be directed to the Montgomery County Cancer Association (MCCA).
