Norman Earl Furrie, 89, of Cox's Creek, KY passed away peacefully at home on October 14, 2025 surrounded by his wife and family. He was born at home on January 27, 1936 in West Point, KY to the late Frankie Furrie and Thomas Charlton Furrie. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Alma Roby Furrie, two daughters, Terri Linn Krause (Michael), and Kelli Furrie Drake (Paul), both of Lexington, KY, two grandchildren Emily Drake McElroy (Scott) of Paducah, KY and Scott Boyce Drake (Kelly) of Lexington, KY, and four great-grandchildren who he adored, Ella and Drake McElroy, and Colton and Emma Drake. He is also survived by his beloved sister, Beverly Skaggs (Don) of Bardstown. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his half-brother, Charlton Eugene Furrie, and nephew, Thomas Furrie. Norman and Alma had a very close relationship, besides rearing their children and attending church every Sunday, they worked the farm together. They hosted many holidays at their home including an annual Valentine's Day Rook Party for many friends filling their 100-year- old white frame farmhouse with love and laughter. They took innumerable trips together with their young ones and dear friends creating precious memories and wonderful days shared together traveling to all 50 states and overseas. Norman graduated from My Old Kentucky Home High School in Bardstown where he was celebrated for his performances in football, basketball, and track, and Norm and Alma were voted Most Popular Couple in 1953. After graduation, Norman began a 42-year career at General Electric's Appliance Park, Louisville, as an assembly production employee in the Room Air-Conditioning Division, advancing to manager of several departments including Shop Operations, Quality, and Purchasing, and retired as Program Manager for New Products, Home Laundry Division. He and Alma operated Furrie Angus Farm raising a registered Angus herd of cattle in Cox's Creek known for its gentle breeding stock. He was a dedicated member and volunteer of the Nelson County Beef Cattle Association, volunteering regularly to grill their famous rib-eye sandwiches. He also served on the Kentucky Farm Bureau Board, and additional community organizations. His favorite times were with family and friends whether at work or play, farming, worshiping God with other believers, and enjoying, attending, and supporting his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in their games, performances and celebrations. He was called as a dependable lay leader in four Baptist churches in Nelson County during his lifetime holding various volunteer positions of service (wherever needed from youth leader, deacon, librarian and moderator) at Mt Moriah in Boston, where he was baptized at 9 and ordained as deacon at 21, Cox's Creek Baptist Church, Bardstown Baptist Church and Parkway Baptist Church of Bardstown, the latter where he was also a founding member. He was a faithful Christian gentleman, who conducted a relentless pursuit of excellence in any endeavor he undertook and all who knew him recognized his grit, integrity, and devoted service to Jesus Christ.
