Norman Caryl Harty

Norman Caryl Harty, 90, passed away Friday, December 9, 2022 at Providence St. Vincent Hospital in Portland, Oregon. Norman was born March 8, 1932 to Fred and Lena Harty at their home in Hillsboro, Oregon, the youngest of nine children. He graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1950 and resided in Hillsboro his entire life.
Norman met his beautiful bride and wife of 67 years, Neva Jo Worley, in 1952 and they married June 12,1954. He worked with his brother Glenn Harty drilling wells in the surrounding areas of Washington County. He became a Washington County Deputy Sheriff in 1956. In 1957 Norman began his primary career as a manager in manufacturing at Tektronix and retired in 1984. His post years of retirement he worked at Griffith Polymers briefly and Mark Unger Farms helping with harvest where he drove combine. He volunteered his time for several years with the Hillsboro Active 20-30 Club, a service organization. Apart from providing for his family, he enjoyed landscaping the home he and Neva built together in 1962, and where he was able to live until his death. He also enjoyed growing a large garden every summer and canning a cornucopia of vegetables and fruit for the winter. He like computers and embraced the technology early in the eighties when many of his peers did not. He loved his family and his cats and life in general.
Norman is survived by his wife Neva; sons, Edward, Ronald and Gregory. He had four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren. His parents and siblings preceded him in death. There will be no funeral services but a private burial on December 27 at Valley Memorial Park, Hillsboro, Oregon.
