Obituary published on Legacy.com by HeartLight Funeral Services - Cedar City on Oct. 1, 2025.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Norman Gene Jones. Before his life ended unexpectedly, he reached the age of 59. He was a loving husband, stepfather, brother, uncle and cherished friend to many. Norm was born on November 7th, 1965, in Shreveport, Louisiana to Richard Gary and Anneliese Jones. He was the second child, with an older and younger brother. At age two, the family moved to Hollywood, California where they stayed only briefly before relocating 4 years later to Whittier, California where he spent most of his formative years and attended elementary school and graduated from Whittier High School in the class of 1983. He Varsity lettered in baseball, which was one of his passions, acting in the position as pitcher. He also loved playing water polo, which he also lettered in and served as goalie. He received his Associate's degree in Electronics Engineering from Southern California Institute of Technology. He also earned his Commercial Driver's License certification from Snow College in Ephraim, Utah. Before moving to Utah in 1996, he worked in the field of plumbing from 1986 to 1996. He loved working with his father and brother restoring old cars. This was his passion that started at a very young age and continued all throughout his life. It was difficult for him to leave California; he loved the beach and ocean so much, but once he moved to Utah he started a new career as a Commercial over the road driver for Andrus Transportation for about 23 years. He delivered cargo to various businesses, ultimately driving for Walmart before health conditions prevented him from continuing. His parents owned multiple properties, and Norman became skilled at plumbing, construction, and all aspects of restoration work. He truly was a jack-of-all-trades, he could fix just about anything. Norm had such a generous heart and would willingly give the shirt off his own back. Although he wasn't a 'people person' he was loyal and protective of his family; his "nucleus" as he would say. In January of 2013, Norman met the love of his life Gail Terry in Cedar City. Meeting for the first time; having just got off work, he picked her up in his tractor truck at 6:00 in the morning and took her to breakfast at Denny's restaurant! She has five children which Norm immediately adored and treated them as his own and they loved him too. His familiar greeting to them would be, "How you doin'?" or "Hey what's up?" which they loved. To his grandchildren he would give them 'zerberts' on the cheek, 'high-fives' and 'knuckles'. Norm's older brother Gary would call Norm (aka: Gene) "Geney-beaney-washing-machiney". Later, In 2017, Norm's younger brother Kevin told Norm he was going to be an uncle, and Makena was born. Norm was thrilled and Makena later picked up the old nick name and lovingly called her uncle her "Geney-beaney-washing-machiney". Although he wasn't fond of Gary calling him that, his eyes would light up whenever she did. It was obvious he had a big heart and an easy-going disposition and was always willing to help others. Norm and Gail relocated to St. George in 2022 where Norm was going to continue driving for Walmart, unfortunately after an injury and heart issues which required surgery and extensive recovery, Norm was unable to continue his passion of driving, even after driving over 2.5 million miles over the course of his employment. This was a tremendous blow to him emotionally, still he had the loving support of Gail and his family then, and still today. Norm is survived by: Gail and her five children, his father, his brother, sister-in-law, nine grandchildren, and one niece. Our hearts are truly broken and Norm will be greatly missed!
