Debra Lynn Helquist Pitcher

Debra Lynn Helquist Pitcher , 73, returned to her heavenly father Wednesday October 1st after a long battle with complications due to a near fatal car accident she suffered in February of 2024. Debbie was born to Alfred H. and Carol Helquist on October 14, 1951.

She was the second to the oldest of five sisters: Rita Helquist Hartle, Pamela Helquist Anderson, Kathy Helquist Pearce, and Peggy Helquist Clayburn. Debbie grew up in White Rocks, UT and graduated from Union High School. As a teenager she worked at Brown’s Café. If you knew Debbie, then you already knew the story about how many hundreds of potatoes she would peel each shift she worked.

Debbie attended Snow College in Ephraim, UT. She would go on to meet the love of her life W. Morris Pitcher while attending a local dance. Morris and Debbie would later get married and sealed for all eternity in the Logan Temple on November 19, 1972. She was the mother of four children: Lynn, Diana (Brian R.), Trina (Brian C.), and Rebecca (Scott A.).

After she was married and living in Cache Valley, Debbie earned her certified nursing assistant certificate. She worked for the Sunshine Terrace and then Cache County Rehabilitation Center in Logan, UT. Later in life she worked as a teacher at the Benjamin Franklin Academy in Brigham City, UT.

Debbie was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She was so proud of her granddaughter, Seletta, who is currently serving a mission in North Carolina. She took comfort prior to her passing knowing that another granddaughter, Ilamay, is currently preparing to serve the Lord in Sao Paulo, Brazil in a couple months' time. All of her grandchildren were the light of her life and brought her so much joy. When they were little, she had the ability to spend hours entertaining them on her lap with just a mere purse in hand.

Debbie had many wonderful neighbors, friends, and a loving family ward. She was a fun loving, gift giving type person, who loved singing, especially at home with her karaoke machine. She loved serving others by making wreaths for their loved ones that had passed away. She was very talented at doing it too!

Debbie is survived by her children, her sisters, and her grandchildren: Kaytalisa, Teryn, Keston, Seletta, Ilamay, Jayris, Vincent, Gabe, Ayla, and baby Oliver.

She was preceded in death by her parents Alfred H. and Carol Helquist , her husband W. Morris Pitcher, and many other loved ones who have awaited her return to heaven.

Debbie did not wish to have a viewing or a funeral. She wanted people to remember her in life, not in the sadness of death. Debbie will be remembered by many for her love of food. She was a regular at many of the local restaurants who knew her by name. In lieu of flowers she would have wanted everyone to go out and enjoy a good meal or donate to your favorite charity. There will be a small graveside service for immediate family only.

We would like to thank the nurses and staff from Atlas Homecare and Hospice for the care they provided. We would especially like to thank her two granddaughters Kaytalisa and Seletta for all their tender loving care of Grandma Debbie.
