Norman A. Montminy Jr., 84, of Cumberland, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, at the Hope Health Hulitar Hospice Center, Providence on Sunday, March 9, 2025. He was married to the love of his life, Catherine (Healy) Montminy for the past 64 years. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Norman A. and Blanche (Magnan) Montminy Sr.
He was a proud US Army Veteran and RI native who had an accomplished career at Rhode Island's flagship supermarket, Almacs. Norman rose to the Executive ranks as a Systems Manager responsible for the grocery chain's 43 stores located in RI and Southern MA. His loyalty and commitment were evident in his personal life and in the uniqueness of his 39-year career within one company. He was very proud of the legacy and impact he made at Almacs, and grateful for the lifelong friends he made and all the wonderful trips and sporting events that he, his wife, and children got to experience throughout his career.
Norman's greatest achievement was his love story with his wife, his true soulmate. Norman and Kay met in grade school, and from that point on they were inseparable. Their love and devotion to each other was an inspiration to all who knew them. As a couple they lived life to the fullest, retiring in their early 60's and spending 19 seasons as snowbirds in Pompano Beach, Florida where they were known to swim in the ocean during the day and dance at night. Norm played in golf and bocce club leagues and was even appointed captain of his bocce team. He enjoyed cooking and entertaining all of his family and friends who visited.
In addition to his wife, his beloved family includes his three children: his son Brian and his wife Susan Montminy of East Greenwich, RI; his daughter Kerri and her husband John Mulligan of Weekapaug, RI; his youngest daughter Kristen and her husband Matthew Regan of Cumberland, RI. He was proudly known as "Pops" to his treasured 6 grandchildren Brian and Samuel Montminy, Nicholas and Kaitlin Mulligan, Emily and Alexis Regan; and his great grandchildren whom he adored and delighted in; Liliana and Brian "Norman" Montminy. Pops will forever be touched that his grandson Brian and his wife Kelsey surprised him with his namesake, allowing his legacy to live on.
Throughout his life, even during his final moments, he was always the most kind, giving, and patient person, living life with a smile on his face. As family friends have shared, everyone needs a Pops in their life.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Norman's Funeral to be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at 11 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Raymond Church, 1240 North Main Street Providence, RI 02904. Burial will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road Cumberland.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Hope Hospice, 1085 North Main Street Providence, RI 02904. This was the most special place where Norman was surrounded by love and laughter and peacefully passed with the utmost dignity.
