Norman "Jake" Peterson, age 73 of Gillett, passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2025 with family by his side. Jake was born on April 22, 1951 to the late Edward and Mildred (Olson) Peterson in Oconto Falls. He graduated from Gillett High School with the class of 1970. On September 2, 1978, Jake married the love of his life, Susan Gomber, at St. John Catholic Church in Gillett. Jake started working in construction before moving on to logging. He spent the remainder of his working career as a truck driver. Jake also kept beef cattle and hogs. When he wasn't working, Jake enjoyed spending time with his sons. He loved hunting and fishing and being able to share that love with his sons. Even when he wasn't physically able to hunt, Jake enjoyed riding along bear hunting and listening to the dogs. He also enjoyed ice fishing.
Jake is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sue; 4 sons, Keith Peterson, Kyle (Dana) Peterson, Norm (Jess) Peterson, and Chad (Nel) Peterson; grandchildren, Brittany, Jacob (Alley), Willimina "Billie" (Brendon), Lindsey, Emily, Abby, and Bailey; 2 great-grandchildren, Piper and Dante; sister, Gail Simmons. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law, Peter and Patricia Gomber.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at St. John Lutheran Church in Gillett from 9 am until the funeral service at 11 am with Pastor Chris Byars officiating. Gruetzmacher Funeral Home in Suring is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences can be expressed at www.gruetzmacherfuneralhome.com.
The family would like to thank the staffs of Suring Health and Rehabilitation Center and Unity Hospice for the care and compassion offered to Jake and his family during their time of need.
