Obituary
Norman Gene Shurson, age 93, of Asheville, NC, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at Fleshers of Fairview in Fairview, NC.
Norman was born on January 2, 1930 in Kendall, Illinois to the late Norman D. Shurson and Hulda E. Shurson. Norman was a proud veteran of the United States Navy in which he served for two years. Before retirement he was in furniture management and sales, and he co-owned several stores in Ohio.
Norman was many things in his life, but one thing he was proud of was being a husband, brother, stepfather, and grandfather to many.
Many people knew him within his family as Norm, or Normy. Norm was always one who had a plan, and wanted to make sure you knew about his plan so you could help him. Norman would check on his neighbors as well as lend a hand to them in a time of need.
In addition to Norman's parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Halsten Shurson; and a grandson, Chad Davis.
Norman is survived by his wife of 19 years, Elsie Shurson, Three step-daughters, Anna Taylor of Swannanoa, NC, Debra Queen of Burnsville, NC, and Robyn Bailey of Swannanoa, NC. Norman had seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren who loved him dearly.
The family would like to give their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Fleshers of Fairview and to the staff of Four Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care who took great care of Norman in recent years.
A funeral service will be held at two o'clock the afternoon of March 22, 2023 at the Western North Carolina Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC, with Rev John Alexander officiating.
