Robert Shurson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Anderson Memorial Home & Heartland Cremation Services - Plainfield on Jan. 30, 2026.
Robert Shurson, 89, passed away comfortably and peacefully at home, surrounded with love. Robert was a loving Husband to Dixie, and brother to Diane (Jim) Racich. Father to Mark (Leslie) Shurson, Lynn (Frank) Hudon, Lisa (Joe) Horvatin. Stepfather to Tammey (Tom) Ryan, Theresa Hawken, and Hamday Alley. Cherished Grandfather of 11 grandchildren , 5 Great-Grandchildren, and a Beloved Uncle. Proceeded in death by his wife Catherine Shurson (Sandretto) and his parents, Robert and Clara Shurson.

Robert was a proud graduate of Joliet Catholic HS, Bradley Il Univ. and a US Marine Corp. Reserves veteran. He was a single father for many years and devoted his life to raising and providing for his children during this difficult time. He worked at EJ&E Railroad for 26 years and was blessed to retire at the age of 55. Robert and Dixie moved to Arizona in 1991 where he received his real estate license. During his time in AZ, he perfected his golf game, loved playing cards with friends, traveling, and became very involved in the Catholic Church. Robert had a strong faith in God. He was part of several small faith groups over the years and was involved in the St Vincent DePaul society for 12 years, the last 10 as President. Upon returning back to Il, Robert devoted his time to his family, friends, church and golf. He will be missed and loved by many.

Thank you to the Advocate Pearl Hospice team for all your support and the wonderful care you gave to Robert. You became family to us all during this difficult time and we were blessed to have a such a phenomenal team.

I am heartbroken about the loss of my Dad's best friend. Since I was a little girl, he was always there, almost like a 2nd dad to me. Despite that closeness, he will still always be 'Mr. Shurson' to me. It was just how I was brought up and never outgrew that.
There are many things that I will remember, but always, always the amazing smile and infectious laugh. I'd say they were part of almost any conversation with him.
You will be so missed.
My love and deepest sympathy Dixie, Lynn, Lisa, Mark, and family.
