Normand Bertrand Ferland, a life-long resident of Rochester, NH, passed away after battling a long illness on March 15, 2023. He was 74.
Normand graduated from Holy Rosary High School in 1967, then went on to pursue an associate's degree at Andover Institute of Business where he graduated in 1969 with a degree in computer technology. Normand worked at Simplex Wire and Cable, then at Davidson Rubber, where he spent the majority of his career, followed by Belmont Gaming and finally Molex in Gilford, NH where he ultimately retired.
Normand belonged to the Rochester Elks BPOE #1393 for 25 years, as well as Sons of American Legion Post 7, and Farmington Fish and Game Club. Normand enjoyed coaching recreational softball with his daughter, as well as umpiring in his free time. Later in life, he enjoyed riding his Harley, boating on Lake Winnipesaukee and traveling with his wife.
Normand enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved his family tremendously, he loved sitting around the fire, he loved his sweets, taking frequent naps, and he loved to watch Fox News 24/7! However, when Normand was ready to leave, he made it clear it was "time to go to let the dogs out" and anyone close to him was used to hearing this comment over and over again. Normand loved animals of every kind, especially his dogs and his grand dogs. Normand was a witty man, and always had a funny joke to tell. He loved to laugh and make people laugh. His sense of humor will certainly be missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bertrand and Alice (Gagne) Ferland and his great uncle Wilfred Cyr and his wife Philomen. Also eagerly awaiting his arrival across the rainbow bridge were his devoted chow-chow Kato and puggle Sayde.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sherry (Belanger) Ferland; his daughters – Danielle (Ferland) Randall and her husband Michael, and Shelley (Ferland) Bushway and her husband Jason; his grandchildren – Spencer Randall, Logan Randall, Bryce Bushway, and Ava Bushway; his brother Gary Ferland and his wife Monica; his niece and goddaughter Erin Ferland; his niece Andrea (Ferland) Breig and her husband Trevor; and his two great nephews - Cameron and Levi Breig. He also leaves behind his loyal and cherished Jack Russell Maddie.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Tuesday, March 21 from 10:30 - 11:30 AM at Grondin Funeral Home, 177 N. Main Street in Rochester. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:00 PM at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 189 N. Main Street, to be officiated by Fr. Marc Gagne, who is also his first cousin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to (CHAD) Children's Hospital at Dartmouth-Hitchcock, One Medical Center Drive, Lebanon, NH 03756 or to Pope Memorial Humane Society, 221 County Farm Road, Dover, NH 03820.
