Norton "Chino" Segarra

Norton "Chino" Segarra, a longtime resident of Beacon, passed away on January 17, 2025 from injuries sustained in a car accident. He was 74 years old.
Chino was born in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico on February 26, 1950, the son of the late Leonardo E. Segarra and Carmen Luisa Matos. On March 8, 1969 he married the former Aida Santana. Mrs. Segarra survives at home.
Chino proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1968 until his honorable discharge in1970. He had retired from Metro-North Railroad. He had a CDL license and had previously worked as a truck driver for Texaco Research Center in Glenham. He enjoyed playing bingo with his wife and riding bikes. Chino was also an avid softball player in Beacon.
In addition to his wife, Chino is survived by his children, Eric Segarra and his wife, Kendall and their children, Ezra and Asher; his daughter, Nichol Segarra and her son, Jalen Reilly; his daughter, Zandra Quinones and her children, Sharina Barnes, Sha-Man Irvin and Brice Banks; his great grandchildren; his brothers, Ismael Perez, Miguel Perez and Richard Perez; his sister, Lilly Perez; many nieces and nephews and extended family.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Pedro Segarra and his sister, Nancy Rivera.
Family and friends will gather on Tuesday, January 28 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Riverview Funeral Home by Halvey, 2 Beekman Street, Beacon. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 29 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Joachim Cemetery, Beacon.
