Ntina Chronis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Memory Eternal Funeral Directors, Ltd. on Oct. 6, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Ntina (Konstantina) Chronis (née Athans), 101, a devoted servant of God, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Monday, October 6, 2025.

She was the beloved wife of her devoted husband, the late George D. Chronis.

Ntina is the cherished mother of her loving children, James G. (Dian) Chronis, Joanne (Dean) Stavrakas, and Anthony G. (Alison) Chronis; proud Yiayia of her grandchildren, Symeon Stavrakas, George J. (Diana) Chronis, Tina (George) Aslanidis, George (Lindsay) Stavrakas, George A. Chronis, and Kassandra (Brian) Welker; and adored great-grandmother of Dino, Bobby, Jozi, Arianna, JC, Konor, and Chloe.

She was the treasured sister of the late Tasia (late Pete) Gerginis, the late Pete (late Joann) Athans, the late Maria (late Andy) Bagianis, the late John (late Loula) Athans, the late Theodore (late Canellitsa) Athans, and James (late Eleanor) Athans; fond aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Ntina was born on August 24, 1924 to parents Antonios and Panagiota Athanasopoulos in Karatoula, Greece.

As the eldest sibling, Ntina embraced the responsibility of caring for her brothers and sisters, embodying both the selflessness of a parent and the tenderness of a sister.

Ntina and George married in 1947 at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Megalopolis, Greece. In 1955, they embarked on a new chapter with their three children and journeyed to America, where they settled in Chicago.

She was a member of the Megalopolis Society and Annunciation Cathedral Philoptochos.

Ntina's fierce spirit, quiet strength, and unmatched devotion to her family will be dearly missed. A light in their lives, Ntina was and will continue to be the pride of her children and grandchildren, leaving her legacy of love, faith, and family - a gift that will guide them for generations to come.

Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, October 9 at 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 2727 W. Winona St., Chicago, IL. Interment will follow the service at Elmwood Cemetery, 2905 N. Thatcher Ave., River Grove, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent in Ntina's name to St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Chicago, or the Greek American Rehabilitation & Care Centre.
