Nyla Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carson-Wall Funeral Home - Parsons on Dec. 31, 2025.
Nyla J. Smith, 60, of Edna, passed away Tuesday morning, December 30, 2025, at the Labette Health Emergency Room in Parsons.
She was born on January 6, 1965, in La Crosse, Kansas to Raymond and Alice (Heble) Sramek. Nyla grew up in La Crosse and attended schools there graduating from La Crosse High School in 1983.
Nyla became a Certified Nurse Aide and Medication Aide and worked at the La Crosse Nursing Home. She moved to Topeka and then to Independence where she continued her work as a caregiver, nurse aide, and medication aide until she retired. Following her retirement, she moved to Edna.
Nyla loved to laugh and had a great sense of humor. She enjoyed cooking, reading, and always provided great advice to anyone who was willing to listen. She loved listening to music and would usually have the volume turned up while playing 1980's hair bands. Her faith was very deep, and had a childlike faith in Jesus. She was deeply knowledgeable about the Bible and had strong spiritual wisdom. Her greatest love in life was the love she had for her children, grandchildren, and family.
She and Troy Smith were married on June 28, 1987, in Las Vegas, Nevada. He preceded her in death on December 24, 2013.
Nyla is survived by her daughter, Alice Hite, and her husband, Evan of Edna; her son, Thomas Smith, and his wife, Heather of Edna; her grandchildren, Addison and Elaina Hite; her siblings, Marshall Sramek of Overland Park, Melinda Adib, and her husband, Ali of Gilbert, AZ, Kerwin Sramek of La Crosse, Rod Sramek, and his wife, Paula of La Crosse, Sarah Duffy, and her husband, Michael of Salina, Shelia Smith of Hutchinson, Joe Sramek, and his wife, Tammi of La Crosse, Jill Postier, and her husband, Brent of Wichita, David Sramek, and his wife, Lisa of Wichita, Michelle Basgall, and her husband, Steve of Augusta, Raymond Sramek, Jr., and his wife, Amy of Wamego, and her brother-in-law, Kean Dunback of Wamego; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Vanessa Dunback, her brother-in-law, Danny Smith and two nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, January 10, 2026, at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Parsons with Pastor Alan Kalgren officiating. Friends may come to the funeral home to sign the register. Memorials are suggested to the family, and these may be left at or mailed to the funeral home, 112 N. 26th St., P.O.
