Nyoka Robinson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Homes Corydon on Jan. 17, 2026.
Marengo, Indiana

Nyoka Lyle Robinson, 78, passed away Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Baptist Health Floyd Hospital in New Albany, Indiana. She was born in Floyd County, Kentucky to John P. Bentley, Sr. and Betty F. (Sayre) Bentley. She was raised in the mountains of Eastern Kentucky and regardless of where she lived, she always referred to the mountains as home. She married Woodrow Robinson in Virginia on September 19, 1970. She retired from the U.S. Census Bureau, National Processing Center in Jeffersonville, Indiana on March 31, 2012, where she had 25 plus years of federal service. Nyoka lived a life full of creativity, generosity and joy. A devoted crafter, she poured her heart into sewing, crocheting, painting and drawing, always finding beauty in the act of making something by hand. Each spring she looked forward to March Madness, cheering passionately for her beloved Hoosiers. Service to others was woven into every chapter of her life. She volunteered with the Girl Scouts, Crusade for Children, Homemakers, CBWRA, veterans' organizations and numerous women's groups through her church, and whenever her daughters found a new activity, Nyoka was right beside them, offering her time, energy and unwavering support. Music was another of her great loves. She enjoyed singing, and her admiration for Elvis was unmistakable, from her treasured collection of memorabilia to the unforgettable birthday gift her daughters gave her, a trip to Graceland, a dream fulfilled. Nyoka's life was defined by creativity, kindness, and a deep devotion to the people and passions she loved. Her legacy lives on in every life she touched.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sibling John P. Bentley, Jr.. and grandson Matthew Hannel. Also preceding her in death are sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol Bentley, Otto, Jr. Robinson, Billy and Sarah Deweese, Lawrence and Anna Ems and Robert and Louisa Mae Lee, nephews, William Moses Bentley, David (Fred) Bentley and Willie Ems and niece, Patty Hardin.

She is survived by her daughters, Regina Hannel-Maouloud (Brahim), Nyoka Libby Doan (Mike) and Nakiea Robinson; siblings, David Bentley and Julia Bormes (Chris), sister-in-law, Myrtle Doris Bentley; grandchildren, Amanda Williams (Steven), Audrianna Hannel (Stewart), John-David Doan and Megan Hannel; great grandchildren, Chloe, Carly, Serenity, Harmony, Caleb, Coraline, George and Roselynn as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 12 PM on Saturday, January 24, 2026 at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon, Indiana. Pastor Michael McCarty will officiate. Burial will follow in Horner's Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 PM to 8 PM Friday, January 23, 2026 and again from 9 AM until the service at 12 PM also at the funeral home in Corydon, IN. The family suggests memorial gifts be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
