Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jones & Son Funeral Home - Oneida on Dec. 15, 2025.
O. E. Hammock, age 91, of
Oneida, TN, passed away on Friday, December 12, 2025, in Franklin, TN. Born on March 23, 1934, in Zenith, TN, he was the son of the late Fred and Connie Stanley Hammock. O. E. was a devoted husband to Dorma Hammock for 66 years and a loving father to two daughters, wonderful grandpa to six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He graduated from Oneida High School in 1956, served his country in the Army from 1956-1958 in Germany, and married the love of his life in 1959. After the girls were born, he and Dorma moved to
Chattanooga, TN, where he spent most of his adult years in the house painting industry, owning his own business. He's probably painted most of the houses in Chattanooga. Despite his many responsibilities, he always made time for his family and friends. Dorma and O. E. moved back to Oneida upon retirement. He and Dorma attended Pine Creek Baptist Church, and he officially joined the church on June 28, 2020, after being saved and was baptized on July 19th, 2020, at the Huntsville City Park. We know that he is already with loved ones who have passed before him.
O. E. was hard-working and dedicated. He always did what needed to be done, sometimes sacrificing his own dreams and working himself to the bone. He was known as a man of integrity, great talent and the master of one-liners, the originator of Dad jokes. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and canning the most delicious green beans and other veggies. He was always ready for a four-wheeler ride or a long hike and enjoyed looking out at his pond.
He is survived by his wife, Dorma Jean (Holt) Hammock, and daughters, Regina (John) Wilson of Franklin, TN, and Rhonda (Greg) Coonley of Cumming, GA; his grandchildren, Justin Ayers of Cumming, GA, Eric Wilson of Franklin, TN, Michael (Caitlin Cardin) Wilson of Joelton, TN, Amy (Ethan George) Wilson of Nashville, TN, Hannah (Aaron) Hevenstone of Atlanta, GA, and Rachel Coonley of Cumming, GA, and one great-grandchild, Bowen Asher Hevenstone of Atlanta, GA. He was a father figure to his siblings, Charles Hammock of Oneida, Bill Hammock of Knoxville, Freddie Joyce (Ken) Smith of Hixson, and Stanley Joe (Barbara) Hammock of Kingston as well as many friends and extended family members who will miss him dearly.
We find comfort in knowing that O. E.'s legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories we will cherish forever.
