Oddie Kay Plemons, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all who had the joy of knowing her, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2025, in Arlington, Texas, just one month shy of her 83rd birthday. She was born on November 20, 1942, in Gladewater, Texas, to Orelian Burke and Veda Ray Rice, both of whom preceded her in death.

Oddie lived a life full of color, conversation, and compassion. She married the love of her life, Melvin Wayne Plemons, and together they shared 43 years of unwavering partnership, laughter, and deep love. She was a proud mother to her son Clarence Charles Blackwell (deceased) and her daughters Robin Raye Blackwell and Lindy Lou Blackwell, along with Lindy's wife, Shauna Cade Blackwell. Her legacy of warmth and kindness continues through her cherished grandchildren: Jennifer Kay Kniat, Rosanna Guttierrez, and Paige Weygandt.

A high school graduate with an unmatched gift for connection, Oddie spent many fulfilling years as a customer service representative at Signode Corp. She had a natural talent for talking to people—truly listening, remembering the little things, and making every person feel seen and heard. Whether it was a coworker or a stranger in line at the store, she never met someone she couldn't turn into a friend.

Oddie's love of quilting was more than a hobby—it was a reflection of her spirit. Each piece she sewed was stitched with patience, joy, and stories shared within the quilting groups she so dearly loved. She especially enjoyed learning from quilting expert Karen Montgomery and relished every conversation with her fellow quilting friends. Though she claimed she never had enough fabric, her home and heart were overflowing with warmth, color, and creativity.

A lifelong people person, Oddie found joy in the simplest of pleasures: family gatherings, a good conversation, spontaneous shopping trips, and hearing about the lives of others. She remembered birthdays, asked about your dog’s name, and always knew just the right thing to say to make someone feel special.

Her presence lit up every room. She leaves behind a legacy not just of love, but of listening, laughter, and the beauty of caring deeply for others.

Oddie Kay Plemons will be dearly missed by all who were lucky enough to know her. Her thread has not ended—it continues, woven into the hearts of her family, her friends, and the many lives she touched with grace and genuine kindness.

We encourage those who loved her to gather, share stories, and quilt a little something in her honor—preferably with more fabric than necessary, just as she would have liked. The family ask that you donate to a charity of your choosing to honor Oddie’s legacy through acts of service and kindness, and to continue to spread joy to others.
