Odell Thompson, 93, of Beloit, WI, passed away on Friday, December 16, 2022 in her home.
She was born on August 16, 1929 in Hinds County, Jackson, MS. The daughter of Jesse and Lula (Jordan) West. Odell was orphaned by death at age 11 and moved to Gary, IN with an aunt and family. Odell was a Froebel High School graduate. She later graduated from Rust College, a Methodist college. Odell married her college sweetheart, Vance Vernor on August 2, 1949 in Holly Springs, MS. She later married James Thompson on February 2, 1959 in Rockford, IL. He predeceased her on June 30, 2010.
Odell was formerly employed by Sears, Roebuck for 25 years as the Credit and Human Resource manager, until her retirement in 1991. She was very active in the Henderson Avenue United Methodist Church on the local, state, national, and international levels. Odell was a member of the same church since 1950. She was a volunteer for Caritas and the Beloit Public Library.
Survivors include her sons, Larry (Terri) Vernor of Milwaukee, WI, and James Thompson of Beloit, WI; step daughters, Sherri (James) Hall, Linda (Dr. Leroy) Wilson, and Faye Thompson, all of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Portia (Henok) Tadesse, Jermain Thompson, Nea Thompson, Japri Thompson, Nikita Thompson, Christopher Thompson, and Dee Pulliam; great grandchildren, Malia Vernor, Jeray Thompson, Dominick Guthrie, and Aavin Crawford; nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents; both husbands; son, Perry; brothers, L.C and Alvin; grandson, Kenan Pulliam.
A Funeral Service for Odell will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 26, 2022 in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Rd., Beloit, WI, with Reverend Mary Council-Austin officiating. Entombment will be in the Whispering Pines Mausoleum at Floral Lawn Cemetery. Visitation of remembrance will be from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service Monday in the funeral home.
