Olasinmibo A. "Sinmi" Abosede (née Da Silva), 46, a resident of Naperville since 2022, formerly of Nigeria and the United Kingdom, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 14, 2025. She was born on March 8, 1979, in Lagos, Nigeria.
She was the beloved wife of Olugbemiga O.M. Abosede ("Gbenga"), whom she married on April 21, 2007, and the loving mother of Teni, Tomiwa, Tola, and Tise. Sinmi was the cherished daughter of Gaspar and Funmi Da Silva of the United Kingdom and the dear daughter-in-law of Gbenga and Yinka Abosede of Lagos, Nigeria. She was a devoted sister to Gbenga (Stella), Busola, and Dupe Da Silva, and a treasured sister-in-law, niece, cousin, aunt, and friend to many.
Sinmi's life was marked by academic excellence, professional achievement, and a deep commitment to family and community.
She graduated from Queens College Secondary School in 1995 and earned a First-Class degree in Chemical Engineering from Leeds University in 1999. By 2004, at 25 years old, she had completed her Doctorate in Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London, where she met her future husband, Gbenga. They married in 2007 and were blessed with four beautiful children.
Sinmi began her career as a Chemical Engineer at Thames Water (2005–2009) and later worked as a Project Manager with Atkins in London (2009–2012). In 2012, she relocated to Lagos, Nigeria and by 2014 was lecturing at Pan-Atlantic University, where she became a valued member of the undergraduate faculty. As a lecturer, alumni director, and project manager, Sinmi played a key role in shaping the early undergraduate programs for both the School of Management and Social Sciences and the School of Science and Technology.
In 2022, Sinmi and her family moved to Naperville, Illinois. In 2023, she joined Nalco Water, an Ecolab company, as a Program Manager.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Sinmi was a devoted wife, mother, and philanthropist. She was deeply loved by all who knew her. Her kindness, warm smile, and generous spirit drew people to her, and she formed many lasting friendships. She gave freely of her time to charitable causes, supporting initiatives that met the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of others.
Her legacy of love, excellence, and service will live on through her family and the many lives she touched.
