Olin "Ray" Cheek, known affectionately to friends and family as "Ray," was a man who pocketed life's joys with the precision of a master pool player. Born on November 6, 1935, in Belton, SC, Ray chalked up an impressive 88 years before his final call on May 30, 2024, in Greenville, SC. His legacy is as enduring as the felt on a well-worn pool table, and just as colorful.

Ray's life was a series of perfect breaks and skillful shots. He was a legend in the pool halls, where he won multiple tournaments and earned not just trophies, but the love and respect of everyone who watched him execute a flawless bank shot. Pool was more than a game to Ray; it was a way of life. It supported his family, introduced him to a band of lifelong friends, and was second only to his love for his family.

Ray's family was his most cherished prize. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter with his daughters, Barbara Gallego and Mary Cheek, and his adoring grandchildren, Peter Gallego, Joshua Gallego, David Gallego, Ashley Cheek, and Heatherley Gallego, and his 5 great grandchildren.

When he wasn't hustling the pool sharks or making the cue ball dance to his tune, Ray could be found cheering on the Clemson Tigers, sharing a hearty breakfast with his friends, or enjoying quality time with his dog, Daisy.

Ray was the epitome of a character—a funny, spirited, gentle soul who could light up a room with his humor and warm it with his kindness. His presence was as comforting as the familiar click of billiard balls and as welcome as a well-timed punchline.

As we say our final goodbye to Ray, we remember a man who lived life like a game of pool—thoughtful, precise, and always with a hint of mischief. He navigated the table of life with a steady hand and a playful heart, leaving us all with memories that will bring smiles to our faces for years to come.

Ray Cheek, you have sunk your last 8-ball, but the game will never be the same without you. Here's to the ultimate pool shark, who played the game of life with style, grace, and a whole lot of cheek. Cue the applause, for a life well-played.

A funeral service will be held on June 7 at 1 PM at the Cremation Society of SC - Westville Funerals, 6010 White Horse Rd, Greenville, SC 29611. A visitation will be held at 12 PM, prior to the service.
