It is with deep sorrow that the Johnson family announces the death of their beloved father, Mr. Olin David Johnson Sr., 89.
Mr. Johnson, the widower of Sally Sue Sellers Johnson, entered into rest on Wednesday, December 17, 2025. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home & Crematory are caring for the family.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday, December 19, 2025, at Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. A private family burial will be held in Magnolia Cemetery with The Rev. Dr. Gregory B. Boyd and Rev. Gerald Rivers officiating.
Mr. Johnson was born on Friday, June 5, 1936, in Chesterfield County, South Carolina. He is the son of the late Walter Harley Johnson and the late Minnie Huggins Johnson.
He retired from Sonoco and was a member of the Sonoco Old Timers Club. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was also a member of the Hartsville American Legion, Hartsville Masonic Lodge #173, Jolly Jeepsters Shrine Unit, Darlington County Red Fez Club, and the Scottish Rite. He loved his family and friends deeply and enjoyed being around them as much as possible.
He is survived by his sons, Danny (Debbie) Johnson Sr., Dennis (Robin) Johnson, grandchildren, Danny (Brandy) Johnson Jr., Allyson (Jamie) Outlaw, and Brandon Johnson; great-grandchildren, Emma Claire and Sellers Johnson, all of Hartsville SC; siblings, Sadie (Al) Rudelic of Myrtle Beach SC, Linda (Sandy) Taylor of Ruby SC, and Janice (Pastor Gerald) Rivers of Chesterfield SC.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sally Sue Sellers Johnson; son, Olin David Johnson Jr; siblings, Eva Brigman, Charles Johnson, Aletha Moore, and George Johnson.
