Olin Davis Obituary

Published by Legacy on Apr. 5, 2023.
FORT WORTH--Dr. Olin Frank Davis, Jr. shed his earthly body on Thursday, March 30, 2023, to claim his glorified body in heaven.
A celebration of Olin's life will be held at Broadway Baptist Church on Tuesday, April 11, at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Jorene Taylor Swift officiating. If desired, donations may be made in Dr. Davis's honor to The Parkinson's Foundation, Broadway Baptist Church or Bread Fellowship.
Olin Frank Davis, Jr. was born November 12, 1940. He was a lifelong resident of Fort Worth, save time spent in college at Texas Tech and Baylor University College of Dentistry, and in the U.S. Public Health Service providing dental care for Native Americans in remote areas of Arizona. Upon his return to his beloved hometown in 1968, he established his dental practice in partnership with friend and mentor, Dr. Joe B. Smith, where he continued until his retirement in 2007.
Olin's interests were wide-ranging, including the outdoors (hunting, fishing, backpacking, camping, gardening), reading, music, and cooking for friends, but above all he was a dedicated servant and caretaker. Faithful to the calling of Christ, he served at various Baptist churches in Fort Worth: Ridglea, University, Gambrell Street and, finally, Broadway, where he served as a deacon, Deacon Chair, and member of countless committees including the Rildia Bee O'Bryan Cliburn Organ Committee. He served on the Executive Board of the Baptist General Convention of Texas and on the Board of Directors of the Alliance of Baptists during its early years, and was also active in professional associations.
Toward the end of his life Olin was a founding member of Bread Fellowship Community, seeking as always to live out his faith every day in every possible way. At this moment he is no doubt awaiting instruction from the Lord regarding his next assignment and, perhaps, planning a dinner party to include among others our Lord Jesus Christ and C.S. Lewis, with background music by George Strait.
Olin was preceded in death by his parents, Olin Davis Sr. and Dorothy Fairchild Davis Peart; stepfather, George J. Peart; wife, Julie Vineberg Davis; lifelong friends, Joe. B and Frankie Smith; and canine companions, Samantha, Aslan, Hershey and Pumpkin, who have now at last crossed the Rainbow Bridge with him.
Survivors include his sister, Patricia Davis Ray and husband, Mike, of Holly Lake Ranch; stepson, David and wife, Stevie Vineberg, of Burleson; and stepdaughter, Debbie Kitz of Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Special gratitude to his caregivers, Amy Johnson and Sarah Hightower, who ministered to him with devotion and compassion until the very end.

I have many wonderful memories of Olin. Caretaker is the perfect word to describe him. He took excellent care of his lifelong friend, Frankie Smith, as she battled Parkinson's disease, and served as an excellent dentist and caretaker of all of his former patients. I remember many wonderful conversations with him. He was a kind, encouraging man, and he possessed many gifts and talents, all of which he used for worthy causes. I am glad he is now at peace with all those loved ones who passed before him. His memory shall forever remain in my heart. I thank him for touching and enriching the lives of the ones I loved. For that, I shall always be grateful.
