Oliver John Darling

Oliver passed on surrounded by family on October 29, 2021, after a hard-fought battle with Adrenal Cancer. Oliver was born in Centennial, Colorado to Doug and Elizabeth Darling on August 5, 1992. In 1994, he welcomed his sister, Nicole Darling, to the family.
Oliver attended Willow Creek Elementary School in Centennial, Colorado, and Bill Reed Middle School and Thompson Valley High School in Loveland, Colorado. He graduated with honors from Thompson Valley High School in 2011. He graduated from Colorado School of Mines in 2015 with a bachelor's degree in Engineering Physics. Oliver had many interests in the engineering fields, but he settled with designing and manufacturing 3D printers. In 2019, he joined Diabase Engineering in Longmont, Colorado, where he quickly became a key member of their small team. He was a capable, conscientious, and versatile engineer. He took on the responsibility of ensuring the outgoing quality and performance of Diabase's products, which he excelled at, but he was also eager to pitch in whatever help was needed. He established many of the company's assembly procedures, made design improvements to their 3D printers, and even built crates for shipping when they were short-handed. Most importantly, the owners conveyed that he brought a positive attitude and warm spirit with him every day, even in the later stages of his illness. His dry wit and sarcastic humor made otherwise difficult days a little easier.
During his young childhood, Oliver loved playing games, being in the great outdoors, and spending time and traveling with his large family and many cousins. He attended Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts throughout his childhood and was awarded his Eagle Scout from Troop 81. As a young adult, Oliver continued his love of all types of games, from board game to video games to on-line games to tabletop role playing games, but he was always up to playing anything even if it wasn't his preference. He loved collecting and painting miniature war figures and machines, and he made many true friends through gaming and had on-going games that went on for years. Oliver's charisma and energy were infectious, and, although he was reserved, he was always friendly to everyone, regardless of who they were, how they looked, or what their competitive status was. If you were fortunate enough to get under his quiet exterior, there was a quirky, fun, kind-hearted guardian that always had your back. Although quiet and reserved most of the time, Oliver's intelligence, his loyalty, his patience, and his strength always shone through. Oliver through the years continued his love of learning, and he would research and debate about anything and everything with anyone who would engage with him.
Oliver was a kind and gentle person who will be deeply missed by his large and loving family, his work team, and many friends. A celebration of Oliver's life will be held at his mom and dad's house on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at 11:00am. Memorial contributions can be sent to Nighthawk Ranch Colorado.
