Oliver Sharpless, aka Pap, a devoted father, proud veteran, and lifelong craftsman, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2025. Born in Swanton, Maryland in 1945, Oliver moved to Lake County, Ohio in 1955, where he built a life rooted in hard work, service, and love for his family.
A Vietnam War veteran, Oliver served with honor in the United States Army, achieving the rank of Sergeant and earning two Purple Hearts for his bravery. He remained deeply connected to his fellow servicemen throughout his life as a lifetime member of the 196th Light Infantry Brigade Association, the 25th Infantry Division Association, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Disabled American Veterans Association.
Oliver dedicated over 38 years of his career to Lincoln Electric, retiring in 2008. Known for his tireless work ethic and generous spirit, he found joy in helping others-especially his children-through his skills as a handyman. Whether fixing up his home or lending a hand to friends and family, Oliver's quiet strength and reliability were constant in the lives of those who knew him.
He is survived by his sister Vi Tichinel; his son Scott (Anita) Sharpless; his daughter Misty (Ted) Russo; five grandchildren, Amber (Nik), Cody (Kate), Catherine, Hunter, and Jackson; and two great-grandchildren, Harper and Luka. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter Lisa Marie and his parents, Clarence Sharpless and Marie Paugh.
Respecting his wishes, there will be no public visitation. A private military graveside service will be held at Walnut Bottom Cemetery in Swanton, Maryland, where Oliver will be laid to rest with the honor he so richly deserves.
Oliver will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his country, and the values he lived by every day "Don't Quit". His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who loved him.
