Olivia Delaney Chase, age 12, of Oswego, Illinois, gently passed away in the arms of both her parents at 2:22 pm on March 2, 2025.
Born on August 1, 2012, at 2:46 am in
Naperville, Illinois, Olivia was the beloved daughter of Thaddeus (Steve) Chase and Stacie Lynn Chase (Welle).
Olivia was born with HIE (Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy), a condition that occurred when her brain did not receive enough oxygen and blood flow during birth. Having to be resuscitated immediately after birth, Olivia developed a litany of challenges that would follow her throughout her life.
Olivia's challenges were many. She bravely battled with cerebral palsy, epilepsy, seizures, low muscle tone, being non-mobile and non-verbal, deafness in her left ear, cortical visual impairment (CVI), and numerous respiratory ailments throughout her life. But even with all of this, Olivia was the happiest girl we knew and had the most infectious smile.
To know Olivia was to know her SMILE. Every therapist, every teacher, every friend, and every family member who came into Olivia's world would eventually see that beautiful smile of hers that was the purest form of joy you could ever witness. She lit up a room with her smile and when she laughed while listening to her music, or watching her Trolls movies, or when Grandma Hosto played 'piggy' with her, time stood still and life was good.
Olivia loved to travel and we did our best to show her the world. Whether it was for stem cell therapy in Arizona or cruises out of Florida or Baltimore or New Jersey or for various balloon events across the country her mother would take part in, Olivia was a traveler.
Olivia's smile traveled the world as well. Over the years her father shared countless photos of her smile on social media and it was seen and loved by so many others around the world. Friends in Canada, the Caribbean, Bermuda, Belize, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Romania, France, Australia, the Netherlands, Japan, New Zealand, and many others around the world saw and loved her smile.
Olivia also loved her music, her favorite shows, Trolls World Tour, and a show called Taratabong that was part of her entire life, from the NICU when she was born all the way to the PICU on her last day. People who met her were always amazed that she liked BOTH big band music AND techno dance, something her father taught her to love.
Olivia is survived by her devoted parents, Steve and Stacie, her grandmothers Linda Hosto and Stefania Chase, her great-aunt Janina Langiewicz, her great-uncle Janusz Langiewicz, her aunt Sara Puente (Welle), her uncle Adam Welle, and a list of loving cousins too numerous to mention but deeply loved nonetheless.
Olivia has joined her grandfathers Thaddeus A. Chase and John J. Welle, great-aunt Sabina Kalinowski (Dabrowska) and great-uncle Piotrus Dabrowski in the loving embrace of Our Lord in Heaven.
Through Gift of Hope and organ donation we were able to allow Olivia to give hope, love and joy into the world one final time. Our beautiful girl, through both organ and tissue donations, has already changed the lives of at least 4 people she never met during her life. Her heart was shared with an 8-year-old girl, her liver was shared with a 23-year-old woman, her left kidney was shared with a 72-year-old man, and her right kidney was shared with a 70-year-old man. Olivia has been - and shall always be - our hero.
A funeral mass commemorating Olivia's life will be celebrated by Father James Schwab on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at the Century Memorial Chapel on the grounds of Naper Settlement which is located in Downtown Naperville at 523 S Webster St,
Naperville, IL 60540.
For those planning to attend, you may arrive at the chapel as early as 12 noon. The chapel parking lot off Aurora Ave. has only 20 spots but other parking is available along South Webster St. and in the 200 West Porter Avenue parking lot behind Naper Settlement. The annual Saint Patrick's Day parade will be held that morning (Olivia loved parades) so please be aware there may be traffic issues in getting to Naper Settlement before 11:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, we are grateful for any donations to Angels for Olivia, a non-profit organization we are currently in the process of forming in honor of Olivia. We plan on never letting the hope, love and joy of Olivia's life to be extinguished as she continues to live on in the SMILES that Angels for Olivia will bring to the world.
