Olivia Mary Fortuné, lovingly known as Lee Lee, Granny, and GiGi, was born August 16, 1939 in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Octave Joseph Fortuné and Odette Oubichon Fortuné. Olivia was the youngest of three daughters. She graduated from Joseph S. Clark High School and later retired from the Knights of Peter Claver after 40 years of service as a bookkeeper. She was also a member of the KPC Ladies Auxiliary. Olivia was the devoted mother of Brian Anthony Fortuné and Melonie Ann Fortuné (and her late cat, Ferret).
Throughout the years, Olivia loved to travel whether it was to conventions for work or just for pleasure. Her favorite place was Las Vegas as she loved going to the casinos. She also loved shopping during the holiday season with her best friend, the late Paulette Decou. She liked to play Bingo, go see Frankie Beverly and Maze at the Jazz Fest, put puzzles together, and spend time with family.
Olivia was called home to Glory on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at the age of 84. She was preceded in death by her mother and father and a host family that supported her through her amazing journey. Left to cherish her memories are her two beloved children, Brian Fortuné (Yolanda) and Melonie Fortuné (Debra); her two sisters, Joyce F. Foley (Harold) and Octavia F. Woods (Ronald). She was the loving grandmother of Chanelle F. Graves (Carvin), Chelsea N. Fortuné, and Brian O. Fortuné, Sr. Olivia's legacy also included four great-grandchildren: Bailee and Carvin Graves and Brian, Jr. and Blaise Fortuné. She also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews.
The Fortuné Family would like to express their sincere appreciation for your prayers, condolences, kindness, and other expressions of sympathy throughout this time of bereavement. We would also like to thank the entire staff of St. Margaret's at Mercy for their exemplary care. Words cannot express the gratitude we feel. Thank you!
