Omer Parent Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Albert & Burpee Funeral & Cremation Services on Feb. 16, 2026.
LEWISTON-Omer R. Parent Jr., a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on February 12, 2026, at the age of 83 in Lewiston, Maine. Born on September 7, 1942, in Auburn, Maine, to Omer Parent Sr. and Gloria (Saucier) Parent. He was the third born of seven children and had much pride in growing up in a large family.

A lifelong Mainer, Omer was a man of integrity, courage, and kindness who left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew him. Graduating from Lewiston High School in 1960, Omer immediately answered the call of duty by serving his country in the United States Air Force. His time in the service was marked by bravery and excellence, notably during his deployment to Pleiku, Vietnam, from 1967 to 1968. For his outstanding service as an EC-47 Airborne Radio Intercept Operator, Omer was honored with the Distinguished Flying Cross on February 25, 1968, a testament to his valor and commitment. He truly loved his country.

Following his distinguished military career, Omer dedicated over 30 years to General Electric, where he worked as an inspector and dispatcher. His diligence and attention to detail were hallmarks of his professional life. In retirement, he continued to serve his community, working in security and safety at Bates College for over 20 years. Omer's love for sports was also evident in his role as the football clock operator at Lewiston High School football games, a position he held with pride for over 35 years.

His love for sports was unparalleled, especially for his beloved New England teams, with a particular affinity for the Bruins. He was a fixture at local hockey and football games, cheering with passion and camaraderie. In his later years, Thursdays were reserved for golfing with his friends, a tradition he looked forward to each week. His green thumb and love for nature were evident in his joy for gardening and spending time outdoors, soaking up the sun. No one had a better tan than Omer.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lorraine (Houle) Parent, with whom he shared a life of over 50 years. His legacy lives on through his son, Patrick G. Parent of Litchfield, ME; his daughter, Yvette (Parent) Moretti of Wethersfield, CT; his son-in-law, Bryan Moretti; and his cherished grandchildren, Jackson and Olivia Moretti, who were the light of his life. He is also survived by his three sisters, three brothers, and many nieces and nephews.

Those who knew Omer would describe him as warm and thoughtful. His loyalty to family and friends was a comfort and security to many. He made a lasting impact through his generosity, kindness, and the interest he took in others. Omer's life was a testament to the power of love and loyalty, the strength of family, and the importance of service to others.

As we bid farewell to Omer R. Parent Jr., we celebrate a life well-lived and honor a man who was truly one of a kind. His memory will forever be treasured in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him.

There are no services scheduled at this time. Interment with military honors will be held at Maine Veterans Cemetery in Augusta at a later date this summer followed by a Celebration of life.
