Opal A. Callihan, 97, of Gallipolis, (formerly of the Ewington Community), passed away Sunday, October 19, 2025. She was born March 6, 1928, daughter of the late Fred E. and Nellie P. Sayre. She married James C. "Cliff" Callihan November 7, 1946, and he preceded her in death September 23, 1985. Together, they owned and operated a dairy farm in Ewington for twenty-nine years.
Surviving are son, Gary (Teresa) Callihan of Frazeysburg, daughter, Trhonda (Tim) Casto of Vinton and daughter-in-law, Peggy Callihan of Bidwell; grandchildren: Jamie (Chris) Callihan of Patriot, Doyle (Tonya) Callihan of Chillicothe, Stacy (Thomas) McChesney of Alexandria, Virginia, Jon (Ashley) Casto of Vinton and Austin Casto of Vinton; seven great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren with one on the way and a sister, Judy Piper as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Opal was preceded by her son, Randy Callihan, brothers, Luster, Richard, Daniel, Floyd and Leo, sisters, Rene Blessing, Vertie Robinson, Dora Long, Mildred Strausbaugh and Gladys Grate and a half-brother, Estel Robinson.
Opal was a loving daughter, sister, wife, aunt, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her door was always open and you rarely left her house empty handed.
She lived her life simply and quietly and at her request, there will be no calling hours, services or flowers.
