Opal Joan Lewis, of Liberty, Missouri, passed away peacefully on November 21, 2025, surrounded by her family.
Opal was the third of ten children - Roger, Joyce, Opal, Linda, Janet, Steve, Alice, Mark, James, and Jennifer - born to Nevin and Imogene McNeely. She spent her life exactly the way she wanted to - surrounded by her family. She married the love of her life, David Lewis, on July 2, 1970, and together they had three daughters - Kerri, Kaci, and Kristen - and eleven grandchildren, all of whom were her pride and joy.
Nothing was more important to Opal than her husband, children, and grandchildren. From the day they married, David and Opal were an unbreakable team. After celebrating their 55th anniversary this past July, they still preferred nothing more than simply being together. Whether spending time with their family, taking long drives, watching game shows, or running errands, David and Opal did everything side by side. Their love and commitment to each other was unmatched.
Opal loved planning fun and memorable experiences for her children and grandchildren. She organized countless parties and sleepovers at "Grandma Opal's house." She bought Christmas dresses, Homecoming and Prom dresses, and Halloween costumes - always wanting her grandchildren's dreams to come true. She was well known at Liberty North High School for checking her grandchildren out for lunch or calling them out "for an appointment" when they texted that they wanted to go home, and for buying them a special "prize" just because. Opal firmly believed, "My grandkids can do what they want, thank you very much." Her love for her daughters and grandchildren was unwavering.
Opal was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Kerri Brock; her father, Nevin McNeely; her mother, Imogene McNeely; and several siblings, in-laws, and nieces.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, David Lewis; her daughter, Kaci Monaghan and Joshua Lordemann; her daughter and son-in-law, Kristen and Matt O'Hara; her son-in-law, Kenneth Brock; her eleven grandchildren and her new granddaughter-in-law (in age order): Kennedy Brock, Broghan and Mikayla Monaghan, Brynn Monaghan, Karissa Brock, Braley Monaghan, Xander O'Hara, Brody Monaghan, Kael Brock, Eden O'Hara, Dillon O'Hara, and Evan O'Hara. She is also survived by her siblings, Teresa McNeely, Joyce and Frank Adams, Linda and Stan Phipps, Steve and Penny McNeely, Alice and Rick Lammert, Mark and Lori McNeely, James and Jennifer McNeely, Jennifer and David Seibert; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Opal loved donating food to the Little Free Food Pantry down the hill from her house. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you donate to your local food pantry – or better yet to a Little Free Food Pantry near you in Opal's memory.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 29, 2025 at Lawson Cemetery,
