Opal Lewis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by James & Gahr Mortuary - Rolla on Dec. 22, 2025.
Opal Louise Lewis, 88, of Belton, Missouri, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 16, 2025.

Born on June 23, 1937, in Rolla, Missouri, Opal was the daughter of William Everett and Nancy Elizabeth Skyles, who both preceded her in death. She was a devoted daughter, a loving wife, a cherished mother and grandmother, and a beloved friend to many.

Opal was blessed to experience love twice in her life. She married her first husband, Douglas Lee Nash, on January 30, 1955; he passed away in 1995. Later, she found joy again and married her second husband, Ova "Rusty" Bryan Lewis, on November 23, 1998. Rusty passed away in 2012.

She was a dedicated mother to her daughter, Donna Roesner and spouse, Stan, of Belton, Missouri, and a loving bonus mother. She is also survived by her brother, Donald Skyles, and sister, Betty Snodgrass.

Opal will be dearly missed by her grandchildren: Melissa Roesner (Tina), Billie Houlehan (James), Kyle Roesner (Andrea), Aaron Flegel (Erika), and Joshua Flegel (Amanda). She leaves behind great-grandchildren: James, Mae, Luke, Reece, Jayden, Treson, Summer, Cody, Taylor, and Nathaniel. She will also be fondly remembered by her special nieces, Patty Phelps and Jackie Tanner, and her special nephew, David Phelps, and her life-long friend, Dorothy, along with a host of extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Douglas and Rusty; her daughter, Kathy Flegel; son-in-law, David Flegel; and siblings Ronald Skyles, Lucielle Phelps, Red (Cora) Skyles.

She retired after 28 years of service at Phelps Health in Rolla.

Music was one of Opal's greatest passions. She loved singing, playing guitar, and sharing her musical gifts with others. Her deep faith guided her throughout her life, and she was a devoted member of the Full Gospel Church of Rolla, where she shared her voice and spirit in worship.

Opal will be remembered for her warm heart, joyful spirit, and unwavering strength. She had a remarkable talent for making others feel seen, welcomed, and loved. Her laughter, music, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

The family extends its deepest gratitude to all who have offered love and support during this difficult time.

"Her song lives on in every heart she touched."
