James L. Crabtree of Newburg Missouri passed away at Aurora Health and Rehabilitation in Rolla Missouri on December 28,2025. James suffered a sudden stroke in August 2018, followed by a long illness. However, James's outlook on life was still positive.

James Crabtree was born on January 5,1957 at the old West Plains Hospital in Howell County Missouri. James was the only child of Joe and Elvina McCarty Crabtree. James was proceeded in death by his precious mother in 1998 and his dad in 2000.

In the early 1960's The Crabtree's moved to Phelps County Missouri. James first attended Strawhun rural School. In 1965 James and his family moved to Newburg, Mo. James attended Newburg schools until he graduated from Newburg High in 1976.

James was an artist and he was well known for his artistic abilities. According to his classmate Billy Lollis, James was a very good drafting student.

During High School James worked evenings at The Hitching Post Cafe in Newburg for Mr. and Mrs. Sweeney. After graduation James worked at The Houston House in Newburg for Miss Helen Houston, as a waiter, cook, and personal assistant. After Miss Houston's passing James worked at Johnny's Smokestack in Rolla, Mo. He also worked at G&D Steak House in Rolla for several years. James last job was at The Totem Pole in Rolla, Mo.

According to a long time native of Newburg, James and his parents were instrumental in establishing (Newburg Day). They were also on the board of directors.

It all began when an ice cream social was held on the grounds of The Houston House in Newburg. A much larger crowd than expected showed up for the event. This resulted in the advancement of Newburg Day and other civic events that continue to this day.

Jimmy as he was known to his long-time friends, never knew a stranger. His lifelong friends from grade school, were Kim Corder, Mike Sharp, Deanie Evans, Tim Rinck and Skip Faulkner. James closest friends were David McCormick, Tim Jones, and Dennis Campbell.

James Crabtree will be remembered for his kindness and cheerfulness. He will be missed by his many friends and everyone who knows him.
