Opal Denise Hunt Smith
1952-2025
"She had a heart so gentle even the smallest creatures felt safe in her presence. Where there was love, she gave it freely - to her family, her friends, and every animal that crossed her path."
Opal Denise Hunt Smith, age 73 of Ashland, Ky, passed gently from this world and entered her Heavenly Kingdom on July 29, 2025.
Opal was born in the fleeting days of spring on May 15, 1952, in Huntington, WV. She was the blessing of the late Bill and Phyllis Spears Hunt. She attended Catlettsburg High School and shortly after began her ever growing family.
Opal spent her life dedicated to being a wife and a mother. She made sure her home was safe, felt loving, and full of the smell of a homecooked meal. She enjoyed motherhood and raised her children with pride. Opal had a gentle spirit that animals were attracted to. They could tell she was caring and loving. It was her special gift, and her little dog Zena adored her. Opal returned her affection and treated her like one of her babies. Opal found peace in the little things in life but most of all she found it in the way the sun would hit her face. She loved being in the sun taking in God's creation. Opal was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She was loved by many and her memory will carry on for generations to come.
Opal leaves behind her children Lynn Stone and her husband Ronnie of Catlettsburg, KY, Tonia Esque and her husband Willie of Huntington, WV, Billie Bullion of Ashland, KY, and William Jack Smith of Ashland, KY, two stepchildren, Scotty Smith and Jerry Smith, her 8 precious grandchildren, Brittany, Marlena, Patricia, Amber, Cecilee, Ashley, Haley, and Jimbo and 16 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her devoted companion, Zena.
In addition to her parents, Opal is enjoying a Heavenly Reunion with her late husband of 47 years Harold Smith, two stepchildren Vince Smith and John Smith, and two grandchildren Shane and Nick.
A memorial service to honor the life of Opal will be held at a later date.
