Ora Lee McGowan was born in Birmingham, Alabama, to Thomas and Ora Lee Barfield McGowan. She was raised and educated in Birmingham. After receiving her masters in nursing she began working in the emergency department for several large hospitals. Birmingham always being home she eventually retired from Saint Vincent Hospital after a number of dedicated years. After retiring the first time she decided to make a change and move to Illinois with her sister and brother-in-law. While there, she began a career in Home Care and would eventually retire for the second time years later. When health declined she moved to Texas to be closer to her nephew, Thomas Storey. The family remembers Ora always remembering everyone's birthdays in the family and it did not matter what degree of kinship, she knew your birthday. The family looked forward to getting their birthday cards from Ora (even if they were six months behind). Ora was a quiet lady that liked to remain to herself and enjoy the little things in life. She will be deeply missed by those that knew her.
Left to cherish her memories are her nephew, Thomas Storey and wife, Christie; and a number of other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and many others.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Ora McGowan; and her siblings, Catherin Storey, Albert McGowan, Mary Jerome Manning and Thomas McGowan.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to your favorite charity or purchase a memorial tree.
