Sandra “Sandy” Carol McGowan, 78, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on February 20, 2026.

Sandy was born on August 15, 1947, in Josephine, West Virginia, to Sadie Lee Brown (Bell) and Bobby Jay Brown. Bobby lovingly raised Sandy as his own, and to her he was simply Dad. When she was very young, her family moved to Amarillo, where she would spend the remainder of her life building deep roots, strong friendships, and a legacy of faith and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sadie and Bobby Brown, and her sister, Mary Chambers.

Sandy is survived by her sister, Moneisa Thompson; her daughters, Carla Clayton and Ricci Ford; her son-in-law, Jimmy Ford; and her former son-in-law, Johnny Clayton, who remained a close friend.

She leaves behind six beloved grandchildren: Lloyd and Itzel Ford; Bobby and Amanda Clayton; Joey and Lacey Ford; Jesse and Beth Clayton; Richard Ford; and Lindsey and Michael Procter. Her legacy continues through 14 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and 2 special nieces.

Sandy was a loving mother and a proud Memaw. She loved Jesus and faithfully prayed over her family each day, often declaring the words of Joshua 24:15, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” She was a longtime member of Fairview Assembly of God, and her faith shaped her life, leaving a lasting impact on those who knew her.

Sandy will be remembered for her steadfast faith, her love for her family, her prayers, and the many friendships she built throughout her life in Amarillo.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Fairview Assembly of God at 3706 SE 10th Ave in Amarillo.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Fairview Assembly of God at 3706 SE 10th Ave, Amarillo, TX 79104 or Hope Choice at 1501 S Taylor, Amarillo, TX 79101.
