Orimena D. DuBose

A Life and Legacy of Love
Orimena Deloris DuBose, affectionately known as "Jackie", was born January 25, 1933, in Saluda County, South Carolina, to the late James Tillman Mitchell and the late Aurelia "Aurie" (Black) Mitchell. She peacefully departed this life on the morning of Thursday, May 9, 2024, at home surrounded by her loving family.
Orimena was a graduate of Saluda Rosenwald High School. She met and married her childhood sweetheart, the late Glaston F. DuBose, Sr. in Saluda, South Carolina. After the birth of their eldest son, the late James Larry, they relocated to New Haven, Connecticut. From this union, five more children were born. On October 24, 2024, Orimena and Glaston, whom she adored, would have celebrated 71 blessed years of holy matrimony.
Orimena's first occupation as a loving devoted wife and mother began with managing her home in a loving environment. She was later employed at Stetson Library where she taught home economics for the inner-city youth program in her community. Thereafter, she was an employee of the visiting nurse association as a home health aide for over 20 years. Upon retiring from the VNA, Orimena and Glaston relocated to Lexington, South Carolina in 1994. A year later, her love and compassion for others led her to re-enter the health care profession as a home health aide for another 19 years. During this time, she also worked briefly as a volunteer for Lexington Extended Care, until her children convinced her to finally retire. Although she retired, she never retired from her calling by God and labor of love.
Orimena committed her life to the Lord at an early age. She attended church faithfully and raised her children in a loving and God-fearing home. She was a faithful member of the Christ Chapel New Testament Church in New Haven, Connecticut for many years, where she served as a deaconess, served on the usher board, missionary choir, and ministry of helps. She was also a faithful member of Haskell Heights First Baptist Church after relocating to South Carolina. On June 13, 1999, Orimena joined and became a faithful and dedicated member of the Bible Way Church of Atlas Road, where she served faithfully on the usher board for several years.
Orimena enjoyed reading and studying the bible with her daughters. When she was unable to attend in-person service, she faithfully viewed services on-line. During her leisure, Orimena was inspired to use her God-given talents in designing beautiful dresses for dolls, cooking, baking cakes, and creative poetry writing. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles, watching her favorite television shows: Judge Judy, Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, Little House on the Prairie, and The Waltons. Orimena enjoyed visiting the museum and attending live biblical Christian entertainment at Narrow Way Productions.
Orimena was preceded in death by her loving husband of nearly 71 years, Glaston F. DuBose, Sr.; son, James Larry DuBose; great granddaughter, Baby Justyce Maxon; son in law, Brian Givens, Sr.; parents, James and Aurelia "Aurie" (Black) Mitchell; siblings and their spouses: James "Buddy" and Ida (Clark) Mitchell, Sandy "Pat" and Henry Mae (Robinson) Mitchell, Annie Belle "Anne"/"Cherry" (Mitchell) Graham, Virgil and Annie Ruth (Outz) Mitchell, Sarah Ann Mitchell, Carthaniel Mitchell; sister in laws, Shirley (Daniel) Mitchell, Reather Mae and Aaron Farrow, Henrietta and Robert Jacobs; brother in laws, James "Pee Wee" and Lois DuBose, Willie and Irene Wilson, Edward DuBose, Lawrence "LC" DuBose, Hezzie "Joe" (Margaret) (DuBose) Young, Reynaldo (Hue Ellen) McQuay.
Orimena leaves to cherish her fond memories: children, Valerie (Jerome) Moore, Glaston F. (Tonya) DuBose, Jr., Paulette (Keith) Gentry, Orimena "Jackie" Givens, Sylvia Maxon; daughter in law, Emma Jeane (James Larry) DuBose; 35 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren and 1 soon addition; brother, Daniel (Shirley) Mitchell; sister in laws, Margaret (Hezzie "Joe") DuBose Young, Hue Ellen (Reynaldo) McQuay; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends – all of whom will miss her dearly.
