Orion Everett Cagwin

Orion Everett Cagwin passed away in the arms of his loving parents on July 22, 2024.
Orion was born on November 14, 2023 to Caitlin (Birney) and Evan Cagwin. Orion was born with a complex congenital heart defect and spent all 251 days of his life at Nemours Children's Hospital. He fought a tough fight, each step of the way and gave his family 8 beautiful months of life. Orion defied the odds repeatedly to give his family a little bit more time to love him. His smile was infectious, his eyes the brightest blue, and his hair was a crazy, wonderful mess. He loved keeping everyone on their toes and grabbing anything that he could hold onto (the more important the medical device, the better). Orion made a name for himself and dug his way into so many hearts. He fought his entire life to give his family so many wonderful moments with him; he overcame so many obstacles that were thrown his way. Upon his passing, Orion was able to give another family the gift of life. Words can never describe how amazing Orion was, how amazing it was to love him, and how much he taught us.
Orion's family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Nemours Cardiac Center for their amazing and dedicated care of Orion and his parents over the past 8 months. Thank you for becoming part of our family.
Orion is survived by his devoted parents, Caitlin and Evan Cagwin; his maternal grandparents, Christine Birney, and Kevin and Mary Birney; his paternal grandparents, Terri Caldwell and Dale Cagwin; his maternal great grandmother, Mary Birney; his maternal aunts and uncles, Patrick and Megan Birney, Ryan and Renee Birney, and Michael Birney; his paternal aunt and uncle, Brenna and Seth McNally; and his cousins, Lily, Henry, Mila, Kellan, Nezzie, and Rowen; his fur sibling, Luna; and a host of extended family.
A Visitation Gathering will be held on Monday July 29th from 5 P.M to 6:30 P.M at the Mealey Funeral Homes, 2509 Limestone Road Wilmington, DE 19808. Burial will be held privately.
