A native of Caguas, Puerto Rico, he was the son of Orlando Rivera and Sandra Pereira. Orlando was a high school graduate class of 2002 from Ana J. Candelas High School in Puerto Rico. Orlando then went on the study Business Administration Management at Strayer University.
Rivera spent 20 years in the U.S. Army Reserves as a 42A Human Resource Specialist. Orlando worked with the 377th TSC out of Belle Chasse, LA ranked as a SSG and also was a Unit Administrator with the 469th Finance Company based in Slidell, LA. Throughout Orlando's 20 years in the military he received the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, the U.S. Army Presidential Unit Citation, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with a Campaign Star, Non-commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, and Parachutist Badge.
When Orlando was not serving his country he enjoyed playing dominos, watching UFC, listening to salsa/dancing, spending time with his friends and family, 4-wheeling, cooking and shooting guns at the range.
Survivors include his wife of 7 years Christina Rivera, daughters; Jelany (Ressy) Rivera and Sophia Rivera. Parents; Orlando Rivera and Sandra Pereira. Brothers; Eric Rivera and Emanuel Rivera. Nieces; Kiersten Rivera, Emilianys Maldonado, and Emarilys Maldonado, and his nephew Jonathan Rivera. He is also survived by his extended family in Puerto Rico; his grandmother, aunts, uncles and cousins who all loved and adored him.
The family will receive friends from 11:00am - 1:00pm at Southern Mississippi Funeral Services 6631 Washington Avenue Ocean Springs, MS 39564. Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, June 22nd, 2024 at Southern Mississippi Funeral Services 6631 Washington Avenue Ocean Springs, MS 39564

SPC Rivera was one of the first guys I meet when getting to his unit. Just a hard working Soldier. From the jump, it was obvious, he was a guy who cared and could be depended on.
When he moved on to a different unit, he was sorely missed.
