Orville Gab, 87, passed away on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. A Celebration of Life is to be held on Thursday, June 30, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Brookings, SD. A Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on June 29, 2022 at Rude s Funeral Home, in Brookings, SD.
Orville Gab was born on March 28, 1935, in Java, SD the son of Joseph and Anna Gab. He grew up in Eureka, SD and attended and graduated from Eureka High School. Following school, Orv enlisted in the United States Army and served from 1957 to 1959. After his time served in the Army, he worked construction for many years until in 1976 Orv continued his education at South Dakota State University where he earned his Bachelor s Degree. Orville Gab finished his career teaching Geography as a Professor for South Dakota State University from 1976 to 2014.
Orville had three children, Grant, Brooks, Krin and maybe loved his sidekick, Krin s dog Flora, the most. He loved sports and watching the grandchildren compete in them, enjoyed reading and participating in tractor pulling competitions. He was a caring and stubborn man but was always fully devoted to his family and work. He was a member at the First Lutheran Church in Brookings, Sd and was a member of the Elks Club.
Orville is survived by his two children; Brooks (Christina) Gab of Evergreen, CO, Krin Rykhus of Brookings, SD; three grandchildren, Zachary (Brooke), Josephine and Parker; two great-grandchildren, Jaxon and Grant; brothers, Donald (Kathy) Gab of Eureka, SD, Ronald (Ruby) Gab of Eureka, SD and Gregory (Cyndy) Gab of Destrehan, LA; sister, Bonnie Mehrer of Sioux Falls, SD
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Anna Gab; one son, Grant Gab (Passed February 20, 1996); brothers, Morris and Mervin and one sister, JoAnn.
