Oscar (Lenard) Ames Sr., 88, of Dewey, Oklahoma passed away on October 26, 2023, at Ascension St. John Jane Phillips Hospital.
Lenard was born on January 10, 1935, to Mary Elizabeth (Gullett) Ames and John Leonard Ames in Pawhuska, Oklahoma.
Lenard is preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Chester L. Ames, Lester B. Ames, Billy Ames, Betty J. Ames, and stepdaughter, Kim Greenlee Norton.
He graduated high school in Chino, CA in 1953. He later obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree from Bartlesville Wesleyan.
He served with the Chino Police Department, Chino, CA from 1956 to 1960. He left the Department with the intent to return to Bartlesville, OK.
Lenard served on the Bartlesville Police Department from 1961 until retirement in 1981. During his service, he reached the rank of Lieutenant and was placed in charge of the Juvenile Division. He left the department to assume the position as Police Chief of Dewey, OK., during which time he also served as interim City Manager. He left his employment with the City of Dewey in 1986 to begin a private investigative business known as Ames Investigations.
He loved hunting, fishing, playing cards with his buddies and practical jokes.
He is survived by his wife, Norma (Kimbrough) Ames; children: Oscar Lenard Ames Jr. (Leanne); Carl Eugene Ames, and Barbara Lynn (Ames) Smith (Tim). Stepdaughters Susan (Greenlee) Reber and Sherry (Greenlee) Wetzel (Larry), 22 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
