Oscar M. Geronimo, 90, devoted husband to Emma, of Durand, formerly of Chicago, passed away peacefully very late Christmas night. Although it broke our hearts, it was a great comfort that he spent his last days and his last Christmas with his loving family and his loving wife Emma, in whom he just celebrated 67 years of marriage.
He was the beloved father of Cynthia Romero (Tony), Danilo Geronimo (Ilene), Ellenore Figlioli (Tom) & John Geronimo (Cathy), and his two children that preceded him in death, Oscemar Geronimo & Nanette Hendler (Les).
He was a cherished grandfather of William Geronimo (Ana), Michael Geronimo, Santino Romero (Deya), Lara Romero, Tristan Hendler, Ariel Hendler, Gianna Figlioli & Emma Mae Geronimo; and a doting great-grandfather to Salvatore, Gracie, Abbi, Angelito, Camila & Rubi Angeli.
Oscar was born in Gapan, Nueva Ecija, Philippines to the late Feliciano and Mariquita Geronimo. He was loved by his family, in which some preceded him in death that included his mother and father in law, Abundio & Consolacion, his sisters and brothers & sisters and brothers in law. He was a cherished brother, brother in law, uncle, cousin, colleague and friend to so many that included even some of his children’s best friends referring to him as “Dad” or “Tito”.
He was a devout Roman Catholic, and along with his wife, served and volunteered in their parishes. He enjoyed Chicago sports, which he shared with his children, and was able to witness championships for the Chicago Bulls, Chicago Bears, Chicago White Sox and his favorite Chicago Cubs. He enjoyed playing sports with his children, from tennis, bowling to baseball, going dancing with his wife and having mini-piano/singing concerts at home with his family.
Above all, along with his 67 years of marriage and his children, his proudest moments were becoming a Doctor of Dental Medicine and becoming a citizen of the United States of America. And he emphasized the importance of family & togetherness, hard work, kindness and caring for the less fortunate.
