Oscar Holzheimer, age 101, passed away peacefully at his home in Broadview Heights on Thursday October 30, 2025. Though we will miss him dearly, we are so grateful for every single day that we had with him and rejoice in knowing that he is now in the loving arms of our Lord and the family and friends who welcomed him home.
Oscar grew up on a farm in Valley City where farming, gardening, and hard work became ingrained in him. After high school, he enlisted in the service and was a WWII veteran who served his country in the Army Air Force. Upon returning home, he became a manager in the greenhouse business. He married Carol and they began their family in Old Brooklyn before moving to Broadview Heights in 1965. Later in his career, Oscar worked for the Brecksville-Broadview Heights schools in maintenance and janitorial services. In his free time, he enjoyed bowling, gardening, woodworking, driving his family on unplanned excursions, polka music, and the company of friends and neighbors. Above all, he enjoyed and loved his family!!
Oscar was the beloved husband of the late Carol for 72 years; devoted father of Alan Holzheimer (Emmalee), Richard Holzheimer (Susan), Elizabeth Fava (Alan), Miriam Bloch (Steven), Caroline Trapp (Richard), and the late Gary Holzheimer. Devoted grandfather of Matthew Holzheimer, Amanda Henry, Jason Holzheimer, Cole Holzheimer (Morgan), Nora Holzheimer, Devin Fava (Amanda), Quillen Rahal (Jordan), Tristan Fava (Amanda), Richard Trapp Jr. (Tiffany), Joshua Trapp, Carrie McCarley (Mitch); proud Great-grandfather of 8; dear brother of the late John Holzheimer (Bonnie).
Oscar was a devoted parishioner of Church of the Assumption for 60 years. He spent his final days under the care of his family and the wonderful staff from Southwest Hospice.
Oscar's Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Church of the Assumption, 9183 Broadview Road, Broadview Hts. OH 44147 on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. where family and friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11:00 a.m.
Private Interment to follow at All Saints Cemetery, Northfield.

My family moved to Brecksville in 1967 and lived across the street from the Holzheimers. My memories of that time and that neighborhood are wonderful The Holzheimers were the best neighbors we ever had and I was friends with Al, Gary and Dick. My Mom (who is now 94) enjoyed phone conversations with Mr Holzheimer right up until the end. The world is not quite as good a place with Oscar gone from it. But he is with his wife and Gary again , I feel very lucky to have known this man. My thoughts go out to his family.

I remember Oscar so very well from when he was my dad`s right hand man at Volkert“s Greenhouses in Brecksville. My dad passed away in 2012 and mom in 2021, but the five of us children have fond memories of Oscar always being such a nice guy and a hard worker. The Volkert family sends you our deepest sympathies for your loss, but are so very thankful that you had him for such a long time and have so many fond memories.
