ROGER ALAN SVEHLA, age 89, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 15, 2025.
Beloved son of the late Ann and John Svehla. Loving brother of Jacquelyn Engle (John, deceased). Cherished uncle of Julie Taylor (James) of Cherry Hills Village, CO, and Kelly Wright of Dayton, OH. Treasured great-uncle of Perry Taylor, Harper Wright, and Edison Wright.

Roger was a proud graduate of Case Western Reserve University, where he captained the track team and was a member of the chess team. He went on to spend his distinguished career as a NASA scientist where he specialized in jet propulsion.

A true lifelong learner and explorer, Roger loved traveling the world, attending Olympic Games in many countries, and embracing new experiences. He was also an avid outdoorsman, nature enthusiast, pianist and bowler.

Roger will be remembered for his brilliance, curiosity, philanthropy and adventurous spirit.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Roger's name to the World Wildlife Fund, the Ocean Conservancy, or the Wilderness Society.

Roger, I will always cherish our times together! From our golf group composed of Roger, Phil, Bob, Don, & Norm! Later, I found out we lived nearby you in BAY VILLAGE & me in Fairview Park! Soon thereafter you told me about "COOKS NITE OUT " that met on Tuesdays started by Lannie & Nancy! I actually knew a couple guys from the group, Eddie who worked at the Plain Dealer with my Uncle Tom , & Tom Strickler who worked with me at SOHIO then BP! But the highlights came later! He told me his birthday! I got my cousins , college buddies together about a dozen of us & took him to FIESTA JALAPEÑOS! We knew the owner & after Roger got his margarita, no sugar, the owner brought a huge sombrero (3FEET) wide! Roger kept eating his chimichanga & didn´t even flinch! The place went wild! We did that for about eight years! Then to cap off a great friendship, I invited Roger to come to my wedding in Florida & meet my new wife, Gloria! It took convincing but when a college buddy, Mark agreed to go with him he consented! They attended the wedding, met Gloria, & one hundred of our friends! Roger & Mark did a little sightseeing as they went to JOHN D. ROCKEFELLER´s Summer home in our community of ORMOND BEACH! They also saw my cousins & Aunt Rita (94) years old & came over to our new home!
Because I had a medical issue I missed this past birthday but we talked about his cat who had (5)kittens! The two years prior I scheduled my trip to visit my loved ones at CALVARY & HOLY CROSS cemeteries, celebrate Roger´s birthday as he let my "BIL", Don bunk in his home! I will miss him like a brother! Rest in peace my friend! Gloria & Phil
